All I had to do to pass this class was write a 4-page paper and 250 words every Friday. This was the easiest class I have taken since kindergarten.

I LOVE Dr. NATVIG!! She is so knowledgeable, and even if you don't like music culture, she makes it enjoyable. She's kind of a ditz but in an enjoyable way. She is extremely understanding and accommodating during the pandemic. Accessible via email or zoom meetings. Extra credit opportunities. And lecture material is brief. No final, just an essay

I think Prof Natvig was a great person. Very respectful and very passionate about music and what she does. I would take her again; however, she wouldn't be my first choice. You really have to study, read, and listen in this class.

I find the negative comments laughable. Natvig teaches the classes that students love to hate, and most of the evaluators betray that they are too immature separate their feelings about the material from their opinion of the professor.

SHE IS THE WORST. This was a REMEDIAL SURVEY CLASS in music history and she treated it like a musicology seminar. The level of information she expects students to retain is OBSCENE and her expectations for analysis and synthesis are unrealistic. Also her grading policy is PUNITIVE. I'm a Grad student and this is the hardest class I have ever taken

Dr. Natvig is a lovely sweet hearted individual. She cares about her students and Advisees. She is truly knowledgeable and passionate about the courses she teaches, however she's almost too smart. She doesn't understand how to convey information a lot of the time. However, I wouldn't say she's a bad teacher.

Absolutely terrible. I have never regretted taking a class as much as this. She knows nothing of what she teaches and seems like she googles the info before class. Her PowerPoints are pathetic and unhelpful. Shes fake and irritating. Worst professor I've had. It was torture. Absolute torture.

The last class of the semester she decided that if you had a 90% in the class you didn't have to take the exam. Created lots of unnecessary stress. She is a headache and does not know how to teach. The book is incredibly confusing and what's worse is, she wrote it so you can never fight it. Stay away from this class. Not worth BG perspective credit

Professor Natvig was a very easy teacher but sometimes she would get too carried away with what she was teaching and ramble off. The class is easy but it does take time, Online quizzes each week and 4 concert reports. Easy A though

I took this class strictly for a BG perspective and to just get info about music. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS AT ALL. She calls out random people during lecture to answer questions/give opinions and makes you feel stupid. Her powerpoints are worthless and you will leave every class feeling lost. Then entire course is very unorganized. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Dr. Natvig is a great person. She assigns a lot of reading, both in and out of the textbook, it takes a while to read through most of them.. Overall, she just wants her students to succeed. BGSU1000 requires event attendance, but she will work with you so you can go to events that will fill requirements for 1000 and MUS 099.

I loved my Critical Thinking class. There's lot of reading but the discussions in class make everything worth while. She's a great person and teacher. She doesn't have favorites, she gives everyone equal chance to make a suggestion and listens to everyone. I don't look forward to all the work but she & her class are interesting, fun, and addictive.

Took her class knowing nothing about music (somehow got stuck in that class) she favored students who knew a lot about music and showed it. Failed the final because I was not specific enough for her even though it was open note. Most of my points taken off were from misspelling words. Its a music class not English. Do not recommend at all.

I always thought that music people were a bit out there, but Mary took it to a new level. She completely disregards history and context, and yells at her TAs for indulging student opinions in class. If you know anything about history, you will be confused. BTW, the US entered WWI becaue of the music according to her... no other causes but the music

Absolutely horrid class to go to. No motivation to want to go to class. I had no desire to learn anything. I went in with an opened mind and it quickly got shut down. Easy A, if you're willing to lose brain cells from the hours you have to sit there and just take the punishment..I mean lecture.

A Horribly dull class with an absolutely incompetent professor. The textbook is written by Natvig and is horribly organized. Use the library's reserve room copies to save on cash. The TAs are just as incompetent and are clueless. Avoid this class at all costs. You might lower your GPA as this class will not motivate you. It's not worth the credits.

I'm not sure what to say, but this class was terrible. The book was written by the professor, very expensive, and was the worst book I've ever had to read. The book was like the class, incomprehensible. Natvig is insatiably pompous and often nitpicks her TAs in front of an 80 student lecture hall. Unless you enjoy wasting your time, avoid her.

Comment:
Although some of the content was facinating, Mary Natvig is the worst professor I've had at BGSU. It's not because she was dull, but because of attitude and arrogance. She teaches musical history, but has no knowledge of history outside music, leading her to draw falacious conclusions. Her TAs had no guidance; it felt like a slow motion trainwreck.
