Kessler is a wonderful teacher. She would rather grade based on thoughtful discussions and journal writing then with tests and papers. All she wants is you to get something out of the teaching and be engaged. She isn't always organized but she has a fun personality and wants to help. Participation is a big part of your grade so attending is advised

Dr. Kessler is a very nice teacher who leads a pretty easy course. Not heavy on homework, and gives you only three papers the semester. She also cancels her class pretty often which is always a plus. Overall, you'll be very lucky to end up as her student.

I do not advise taking this as an online class, unless you want to read a lot to figure out what you are supposed to do. She is not very understanding of family emergencies. I am speaking of near death experiences. Gave no lee way on assignments.

I like her method of teaching. Engaging us in group discussions and watching documentaries like Supersize Me and An Inconvenient Truth. Journals are very easy and she doesn't grade too hard on the essays either. The final paper, however, you will need to work hard on to not mess up your grade. I highly recommend her!

Overall, a pretty interesting class. The syllabus said you cannot miss more than five classes and pass the class. The tests were easy and only accounted for thirty percent of the overall grade. The class was genuinely interesting, as classes conducted via padeias, with most of the discussion branching from student input.

Great professor. Discussions were interesting, subject matter presented in a very useful and modern way. Books were interesting as well. No tests, no midterm, no final. 3 different papers, each written to an actual person about an actual subject. Great class.

She is a very nice lady, but very difficult grader. Have to write basically a perfect paper to get an A. Not easy to get a B in the class though, because participation and journals (one single page paper per week) count for a big part of grade. I would def recommend her if you are a student who will attend class and write real well.

I'm a writing/rhetoric minor, and I'd take her class again. She's a pretty tough grader, but she's more than willing to answer any questions you have. It's also nice because she really enjoys chatting with her students.

Really sweet.3 papers.Read Freakanomics, which was crazy interesting. Assigns reading from the textbooks but you dont really have to do it. Journal entries each week, but as long as you do them you should get a 100. I took this class w/ another teacher & dropped it b/c i hated the prof., she was SO much better !

I dont know what ppl are saying about her not being approachable. I could talk to her about anything. She is genuinely concerned not only about your grade, but about your life as well... goto class, type your papers, talk in class, express your opinions and you will get a B no problem... You put some effort into your work, you will get an A np

I had her for Written Argumentation and she is crazy. She seems very nice and sweet but every now and then she just kinda zones out or says something REALLY off-the-wall. As a professor she is average and fair. Not entertaining and not terribly approachable. If you have to take the class go ahead, if its an elective THINK TWICE.

Comment:
Dr. Kessler was fantastic. I enjoyed all the subjects that we covered in this class. Lots of thinking involved. As for the whole "feminist-agenda", yes, she is a feminist. However, she is also open to other ideas. I was upset with some of what she said and was able to state my beliefs. She was not hostile at all. Overall, great prof- take her!
