I took this class my freshman year and absolutely loved it! You will learn so much from Hurt he really knows his stuff. You have to read the books to get a good grade but they're so cool! One was about trench warfare and one about medieval warfare. You have to write papers on the books but it was honestly so interesting that it wasn't a problem.

A very interesting class. very difficult as well. If you do not like history, you won't survive. but if you do, its great. One of the best classes I've ever taken. Just keep up on the readings and you'll do fine

Business major but took this class as elective. This is the most you will ever learn at a class here, but you have to have a strong interest in military history. Books are really good and you have to read them to do well.

this was not an easy class. I'm a history minor and struggled to finish the readings since there were so many. It's difficult if you have other classes with a decent amount of readings, but just stay on top of them and you'll get a B. He is also a tough grader when it comes to the essays and exams, especially with grammar.

A terrific teacher best of my freshman year really witty and oldschool in a good way. The class itself is tough with lots of reading and a ton of information he doesn't use powerpoint all talking if you have a real interest in history you will love this class if not well it might not be your cup of tea.

I recommend ANY class with Dr. Hurt. The man is a pillar of teaching at UD and has been there for YEARS. He is a fount of knowledge on French history (my heritage) which is why I took both his classes! Don't believe the bad comments, if you were bored that was your own darn problem!

Hard class. Very broad range of material and he wants very exact information. Hard to tell what exactly he wants and will take off for not enough or to much information. Overall military history was an interesting class but very challenging even for someone who excels at history. Recommended only if u want a challenge or very interested in subject

Dr. Hurt is a demanding, however rewarding professor. His knowledge of French history is vast and while you must be willing to put in the effort to earn an A, it is well worth it.

Horrible, his lectures are really boring and put you to sleep. 4 pages of notes on average every class. Tests are impossible- expects you to remember what happened on a certain day in a battle, all the dates, names, and what armies were involved. 2 essay tests and final each 25% of your final grade. 2 book reviews each 12.5% of grade. AVOID HURT!!

WWII in Europe. Great military history class. Hurt is a knowlegeable prof; he gives completely outlined lectures off the top of his head. He teaches history by telling stories, which keeps it from being boring, at least for me. Extensive note taking; pay attention to detail. Read the books, study the notes, do the book reviews, and you'll be fine.

Very knowledgeable professor with a dry wit. He can be fun to listen to, but he says everything with a straight face. He is a very tough grader, though. Really wants you to know as much detail as possible for his essays. You will probably learn a lot.

Had Hurt for Louis XIV, he was funny and gave greats lectures. I am a history major and really like the material so I read all he assigned. He is very tough though! I rarely ever get a B in any class but on the first of 3 exams I got a 77. Honors section was 2 more books and 2 book reviews. if you like hist take him, if not stay away!

Took the class online. Totally self paced. Gives you a syllabus, here's what you need to know for the midterm, here's what you need to know for the final. That's it! If you are willing to put in the time you can do well. I got an A-. Both exams were two essays, need lots of details and dates. Was able to anticipate topics for essay. Good guy

Gives 3 exams (cumilative final) and 3 papers. Great teacher, but old school. No grade infaltion here. Hardest history class I've taken (I'm a senior Hist major). Go to EVERY class and take good notes, read everything he assigns, everything is fair game on exams. Witty prof with good dry sense of humor. Probably should avoid if you don't like hist.

Detail is key. Things that you might not think have any great importance, do matter. Hurt hurts you on the grade if you dont use details in essays. Very helpful at officehours. Some very witty jokes.
