Comment:
Professor Diner's class is difficult. She does not provide rubrics or grading outlines. The grade is totally up to the way she feels. The course has a lot of reading and weekly papers, and 1 long paper at the end. Does give Fs, but mostly "C"s. On time attendance is a must. Not a class I would take again. Good luck

Strict on expectations. Asked her to give some consideration, into my grade and she did not. Also, the workload was tremendous. Only take her if you have a general knowledge of Jewish History or enjoy a challenge, because boy will you get one from her.

Very hard class. Expect a book or museum synopsis due nearly every week and a 3-5 page essay every month with a midterm in October. Also expect a trip to Philadelphia during Finals week to write a 10-12 page paper. Writing Tutor visits are mandatory. Also, be sure to buy and read nearly 6-7 books for the class. If this doesn't deter you, enjoy!

Very nice professor. Clear lectures and easy, fair exams. Definitely knows her stuff. The readings can be erratic (one week none, next week 400 pages), but are generally interesting and very relevant to the class topics.

Professor Diner really loves to teach. She is very open to student questions and discussions. However, like many NYU professors, she likes to hear herself talk. Lectures are always interesting, but often turn into tangents instead of evenly covering the material. Readings are very unbalanced, some weeks 20 pages, others 200.

Professor Diner is one of my best memories of NYU. She is brilliant and a lovely person. She managed to make 3 hour long lectures incredibly engrossing by telling history as stories. Also, taking a class with Diner guarantees that you will read a host of fascinating books.

Professor Diner was amazing, very clear and constructive in her arguments. The class had a lot of reading, but it was fairly easy in that the reading was always directly connected to the lectures. I had a great time taking this class, Professor Diner made it extremely interesting.
