I owe Professor Pollock an apology. I was too timid to say it in person. I want to thank her for encouraging me to graduate program. When I was totally lost she sat down with me and encouraged me and told me that I was on the right track. For this I am forever grateful.

You will never finish your project: building a compiler called "MeggyJava". Its not because is it hard. Its because there is no class diagrams, no easy-to-start code, no IDE for debug and no explicit hint for this compiler. All you can rely on is google resource. If you want to balance all your courses, STAY AWAY FROM CISC672.

Comment:
New semester long project assigned (Building a compiler) and it's hell. It's unclear, the due dates are set too early, even so only extended a few more days. Unreasonable amount of work on top of the intensely long set of projects. Expect to spend 10+h coding on this class per week on top of other stuff.

Comment:
The class is good and the professor tries to make it amenable and useful. If you are not good at coding, then it is likely you'll suffer. Also, You need to read from the book to complement the lectures. When picking a partner for the project make sure you select someone not lazy at coding, you really need a competent partner.

She was extremely unclear in her assignments due dates. She isn't stupid but she is way too smart for an intro level class. Unless you've done coding before and are talented in coding i wouldnt recommend it.

Comment:
First time teaching 106, she did a fairly good job at it. 106 is mandatory for engineering majors, and is intro level, lots of people in the class new to computer science, large portion of the class absolutely hates it and are pretty terrible at it Tests are dead easy if you actually did the labs instead of asking people for their code. Good class.

Projects take time but aren't too bad. She doesn't use the text at all, don't even bother buying it because online MPI references are aplenty. Overall really laid back course and not much work save for projects every couple weeks - kinda wish she taught with more direction and motivation. Just study the review sheet for tests.

Comment:
Due dates are always pushed back mainly because the cluster is a mess and the projects are hard. If you work diligently and need more time, just ask and she will likely be flexible. Assignments are time consuming but for the most part helpful in understanding the material, which is less than exciting.

Don't let the easy-going lectures fool you-- projects are hard as all hell. Best advice, go to class and pay close attention to the discussion without logging a bunch of notes. Just get the general idea of things, remember examples given in class for later use (exams etc.). DO NOT BUY BOOK! just use online MPI references, that's all you need :)!

Great professor...shes very flexible with due dates, projects aren't too bad, tests are a little tough. Don't start projects the day before they're due and you'll be fine. She bakes cookies for the class!

I thought this class was very interesting and helpful! The projects were hard and took a long time, but it was neat to have a compiler at the end of the semester. The project was very helpful in learning the concepts presented in the class. And Lori is an incredible teacher!

Doesn't convey material very well; projects are very long, with little information regarding them given in class...not that great a class overall
