Kier is SUCH in an incredible human. Super caring and hilarious. Class was often conversation based; it focused on the topics of empathy, segregation, and the war in Afghanistan. I took her 8am and honestly didn't mind waking up early for it because her class is so inviting. You have to speak up and write well, but grading expectations are clear.

Took Professor Kier for Intro to Sociology on zoom during Fall 2020. She's generally a good person and loves to interact with her students but she's a very tough grader. We had to do journals every week which weren't too hard but she graded her tests and her essays extremely harshly. Nice teacher but wouldnt take again based on how hard of a grader

Kier is one of the most accepting and fun professors I've ever had and her Sociology course was the best class I've taken because of the great discussions we had. It's a discussion-based class, so if you want a class based around lectures then don't take this class, but if you're ready to present your opinion please take this course.

Does a great job teaching Cor110. All classes are discussion based and pretty enjoyable. She assigns a moderate amount of work and there are 2 big writing assignment and a presentation. You can tell she is a good person and really fun to talk to. Grading is not too harsh and its not hard to do well as long as you put in some effort.

Although I've had my moments where I wished I took an "easy" global course, I really feel as though I got something more out of Kier's class. She is dedicated, funny, and open minded. All points of view are respected in her class, you will always be heard and enagegd with. Take the opportunity to learn something, it's not easy but worthwhile.

Professor Kier was so unprofessional. Said she was "disgusted" with our class on multiple occasions and intentionally called students out and embarrassed them. Should not be a teacher at Elon. Global is supposed to be a fun and engaging core requirement and she made it unnecessarily difficult. Way too many papers and assignments. DO NOT TAKE.

I thought I was going to hate her class. She is very liberal and I initially thought there would be a lot of bias and disrespect as I'm very conservative. However, I never felt so respected and valued for my opinion in such a polarizing environment. She really listened to my views and I think she tried to incorporate my view into enriching her view

Awful global professor. She gave us 4 papers to do and we had journals due every class. Only upside was somewhat meaningful class discussion.

You can tell she really ares about her students and wants them all to participate. She doesn't care so much about grades and assignments as long as she can see you've put in effort into thinking deeply.

If you pay attention to what she says, volunteer to speak, and don't argue with her too much, Kier will like you and the class will be great. If you get on her bad side, the class will be hell. She's a pretty easy grader if you put even a little bit of effort into assignments. Some journals felt like busy work, but overall an interesting class.

We never really do much in class. When we do anything, it's all discussion, which is fun. You always do current events in the beginning, then discussion of an article generally. Weekly journals, and a few really long papers. Otherwise, not too heavy workload. Very opinionated&subjective grader tho. Participate in discussion, but speak carefully

Liberal. Don't argue with her. Agree with her always. Not a big fan of guys or comedians. If you have a habit of calling things 'gay' DONT DO IT IN HER CLASS, EVER! Be apart of the conversation. In this class make her opinions your opinions. Come to class with a current event everyday and volunteer to share. She loves this class so you should too..

Overall, I liked the class..but she was a difficult teacher. Had a couple 5-page papers. She is VERY opinionated and don't bother arguing against her because you will get on her bad side and your grade will suffer. You can tell she is passionate about the class- just tended to dictate to us what we thought rather than letting us discuss or debate.

Phenomenal teacher. I had her for global last semester and found her interesting, highly educated, and so enthusiastic about Afghanistan (the subject of the course). She combined group discussions and presentations with lectures. Our final exam was applicable and actually fun to write. I highly recommend taking her class!!

You will learn A LOT from this class, but Kier is hard to handle. She will either like you or not like you. Tough grader and impossible tests. She can be very full of herself, but she is funny too. No laptops or cellphones. Strict attendance policy and DONT be late. There is daily homework, 3 tests, group project, and 10 page paper...

very laid back. tests are very hard but if you enjoy sociology you will like her class. If you don't class will be very boring. My only complaint is that the class is taught from a very liberal point of view and she rarely looks at both sides of an issue. A one page reflection paper is due before every class, but theres not much other work.

Kier is pretty much awesome! She made sociology really interesting and put it into a real-world context. I have a whole new perspective on pretty much everything! Sometimes the daily journals get a little old... And her tests are really hard, but the term paper was actually really fun. I would totally recommend her!
