Comment:

Although Professor Ray is a super funny and likable guy I would never take this class again and would not recommend it to anyone who does not need the Genetics requirement for graduation. This class is so hard by itself and even if you think you have a good understanding of the subject the exams make you feel like you don't, they are so tedious!

I took David Ray for Math 140 and it was terrible. Sitting down to do one weeks worth of homework for this class took me 6 hours and 30 minutes on average. He is not understanding, does not help at all, and UTM should seriously reconsider hiring him. Everything is set up poorly and he makes the class 1000x harder.

Literally the worst. Doesnt help you at all. When youre failing hell say its your fault and he cant do anything about it. He responds to email with an attitude. UT Martin needs to look into him ASAP! DONT TAKE HIM FOR ANY TYPES OF MATH! I wish i was lying but this man has made my college experience a living nightmare.

My main complaints are his inability to make his assignments accessible on both Windows and Apple platforms. I had to take every quiz on my phone, because the symbols and fractions would not show up on my MacBook. He has a super late turn around time for grading. He is not an instructor that needs to teach an online course.

I had him online but watching the videos and the homework really wasn't too difficult and he explains it very well. He also gives extra credit so I would recommend him as a teacher

I would not recommend taking this guy. He has a ton of homework which is by no means easy for a basic level class. His labs have absolutely nothing to do with what your doing in the homework and test. There was a ton a work to get done and not enough time to do anything. I wouldnt recommend anyone taking this guy for anything ever.

I would personally take him again. He gives you extra credit for showing up. His lectures can get boring at times and you will rarely get out of class early. His worksheets are awful, but you only have 2 of them. Lots of homework and quizzes, but you have multiple attempts on the quizzes. He drops two lowest tests grades and one lowest quiz grade.

Very rude and not an approachable person. He makes you feel not smart when you ask a question. His online homework assignments are difficult and so are his tests. I do not recommend.

Ray speeds through his lectures and leaves some students feeling lost. The lab he taught did not line up with the class I was in, and that did not seem to matter to him.

I took his online summer session College Algebra and it was way more work than I expected, but it was after all, a semester crammed into 9 weeks. I loved the detailed videos and his clever use of colors. If he was graphing, it was a color dedicated to each equation and he'd even do the written math in that color so you'd know later on when studying

I've never had a problem in math until I took him. He doesn't answer emails, and like many have said, very vague and passive-aggressive when you ask for help. He requires way too much for a 100 level math. You have online quizzes and homework, tests every couple of weeks, worksheets, and SLOs. Should be a 4 credit class. Avoid him at all costs.

Granted, I'm already not that good at math, but I've always passed math classes with at least B's. This class is very online based. You have about 3 different types of online assignments. I missed 1 homework assignment online and my overall class average went from a 78 to a 53 and he wouldn't let me take it for a late grade. Good luck

This teacher needs to find a new profession immediately. Not only are the few times he gives any feedback passive aggressive and vague, he does literally nothing to help his students. I had him as an online professor and the amount of work required to complete was Astronomical, especially for low level math. Obvious his motive is only to get paid

I really enjoyed having Mr. Ray for Math 100! He gives you plenty of time to get the homework done on MyMathLab and his online quizzes arent that hard. If you go to class and pay attention youll do good on his tests.

He was a HORRIBLE teacher! Whatever you do, do not take his class. People wonder why our college dropout is so high because of teacher like this. He is so unhelpful he will never work with you on things. Don't ask him any questions, he will give you a Smart Alec comment. This is a teacher I would never recommend to any body trying to succeed.

He wasn't the worst math teacher, but I've definitely had better. Make sure you keep up with the homework and quizzes, and don't bother buying the textbook. He does give you extra credit for showing up, but if you can take another teacher I would.

He is the worst. If you have the slightest trouble in math do not take him. He doesnt answer questions fully. He is a hard grader. The tests are even harder. Also the class is soooo boring!!!! Do not take at all costs.
