Comment:
Rich boy got a pretty bad rap here at the U of A; on the whole, I can't defend his personal habits. As a professor, he is amazing. Unlike other professors, he actually expects his students to be intelligent; when they are not, he can turn nasty. Still, he always responded to e-mails and questions outside of class, and to any intelligent student.

What is up with this guy? It is like watching the human equivalent of a cartoon. His facial expressions are so distracting, I can hardly concentrate on the point. Ends up being fine b/c there is no point.

Comment:
It's possible that Professor adams is unusually gifted. Be that as it may be, teaching is not one of his gifts. Classes with him proceed at a snail's pace and are constantly held up by his incessant and offensive joking. He will make fun of everything from your opinion of the text to the expression on your face or the clothes you're wearing.

The only English class I have ever made less than an A in, as a senior Eng major. The entire class is based on class discussion, but as soon as you open your mouth Adams will mock you and eventually I quit attempting to speak. I tried hard on the papers, got an A on the first one, but still made a B in the class. Good luck!

The guy is impossible to understand 95% of the time. Maybe he is a genius, but I'm not impressed- he stinks at teaching but acts like it's the students' fault. Avoid this guy unless you just want some entertainment at others' expense and a C.

It's all a front: the guy is inappropriate with female students to the point of harrassment. It's not libelous if it's true. He's an arrogant, self-righteous, pompous man at best, stunted in personal growth by the fact that he's failed. A miserable failure. If you're pretty you'll get an A. He doesn't read papers. Good luck!

Adams is an intelligent guy, and is extremely sarcastic. Tho his personality is intriguing at first, it's worthless at the semester's end when you realize you've been too busy trying to understand his logic (and vocabulary) to learn anything. Then he expects an essay with earth-shattering insight- inspired, of course, by his own genious. Good luck!

1 - I personally did not like this man. 2 - He doesn't like to give A's. He will give you a B if you make some sort of effort, but an A is very hard to get. 3 - DO NOT buy all of the books he assigns. We only got through less than 3 of the 5+ books he assigned. 4 - Prepare to be verbally abused every day you attend class.

Comment:
An elitist, prejudiced snob who thinks his opinion is the end-all-be-all of literary criticism. You MUST talk in class on a daily basis or you will get a C minimum, but he hardly encourages this when he harshly derides whatever you have to say in front of the class. He has a crude sense of humor but overdoes it to an inappropriate level.

He is very vulgar, and to be honest i get anxiety every time i go to class. i feel like it is a waste of my time when i could be doing something else productive, but he is hilarious, very interesting to listen to.No work just read. You have to have 3 or 4 papers that together = 15 pages.i do like him and in the end i hope he passes me : )

Very easy class, very smart, interesting person. You can learn a lot from him if you pay attention. Comes off as a meanie in class but talk to him outside of class and show you're interested and you will be fine.

Very unorganized. He lost my final paper and gave me an "incomplete" - even though I had turned it in on time. I tried contacting him for several weeks before he finally responded and gave me a C. On the grade change form he wrote that I had asked to turn my paper in late in exchange for a lower grade, and that was not the case.

Dr. Adams has not given an "A" in many years. A "B" is easy to get but an "A" is impossible.

Before you take this class please heed the following: do not buy all the books at once, do not expect a strict syllabus with deadlines, & do not expect any kind of direction or guidance in class. You know the saying "There's no such thing as a dumb question?" All questions are dumb to him. Just live with it. I hated his class & wouldn't recommend i

Professor Adams is the first professor that I actually ended up hating. He is incredibly demeaning and thinks that he is God's gift to literary criticism. Also, there were 11 texts required and we only read 2.5. It was a complete waste of time and money.

After reading the comments here, I expected to completely hate this class. As it turned out, even though I'm no fan of early American Lit, I really enjoy this class. Adams is funny and engaging, and actually really encouraging to people who talk in class. Just bring your brain and you should be all right.

Dr. Adams is entirely unhelpful; I learned less in this class than in any I have ever taken. He's also very self-interested, and discusses the "****" in class. Highlight of the semester was the day he passed gas loudly in class. Somehow, he still seemed to think that he was awesome.

This guy is great! I don't necessarily think that he perves on the girls in his classes, nor do I believe that he means at least half of the stuff he says. Just be sure to bring your cerebrum AND your sense of humor with you, and you'll love him. He's an odd fellow, but still quite sexy and endearing.
