Professor McGivern's class is very test heavy!!! His lectures semi-correspond with the exams, but the textbook makes up a good portion of the exams. He is very understanding (at least for my semester), and was kind to our class. He is a smart man and definitely knows what he is teaching. This class was pretty difficult, but not impossible.

You MUST work hard to get an A in this class. The EC paper at the end saved me from getting a C+. Make sure you read VERY thoroughly because the wording of his MC q's can be tricky. Hands down the most in-detail and difficult class I've ever taken, but I honestly loved the material. Others may disagree, but he really does care about his students.

I honestly enjoyed class content. You do have to work for your grade. 2 tests, 6 quizzes, lowest quiz dropped. Tests 80% and quizzes 20% of final grade. READ THE TEXTBOOK. Extra credit paper which can up final grade 4%, take advantage. Tests are DENSE study hard, open-book quizzes aren't too bad. If you're 100% committed you'll do fine.

This professor is the worst professor I have ever had & I have had bad professors before. 6 quizzes, 1 gets dropped. Quizzes 20% of grades. 2 midterms 80% of grades. NO study guides are provided. Grades based on only quizzes & midterms. Professor won't release our final midterm grade until after an EC paper is due. Doesn't care about students.

This professor has super long and super boring lectures. The only grades are 6 quizzes and two exams. The exams are worth 80% of your grade. The content is very science heavy and the lectures are so monotone and boring its impossible to pay attention.

This class was a little disappointing. the difficulty level feels like a graduate class. 6 quizzes lowest gets dropped, 2 midterms and you have an option to do an extra credit paper. The Xtra can be 4-7 pages long. I think it's too much work for only 4 points of extra credit. He is the only professor that offers so little for so much work.

If youre a person who is not good at test-taking, his class would be very difficult. Very disorganized and has a lot of typos on his quizzes. His class is only graded by 6 quizzes and 2 midterms. In order to pass this class, you should read both the textbook and watch his lectures.

I had him twice for my freshman year psych 101 and physiological psych. He gives u 75% of the test qs on the study guide and gives hella extra credit that can boost you up 4% points. Easy A in my opinion! also great teacher

It's unfortunate that his lectures barely correspond with his quizzes and exams because he really is a knowledgable guy. He gives study guides for each of his quizzes which he copies word for word on the actual quiz and I would recommend you study these. You could easily never go to class and memorize the study guide and pass the class.

Frustrating prof. Everything he writes is full of typos and unclear expectations. Lectures were long and strayed away from the material. Quizzes were difficult, questions felt random. Nice guy but not great at teaching. Luckily he graded our final project and paper easily so I received a decent grade. Most of exam questions are exactly from quizzes

McGivern is one of my favorite professors Ive had at SDSU. Even though his lectures are long, he is very knowledgeable and intelligent on the topic. There is a quiz almost every class but if you keep up with his lectures AND DO THE STUDY GUIDES you should be good. He offered extra credit and I didnt do any of it and still got an A. Take him!

can get slightly distracted during lecture but overall an amazing person who is very helpful if you have any questions or concerns. the tests are pretty difficult but his study guides are extremely helpful so study them well and you should be able to get As and Bs on the quizzes and midterms

I really hated the subject of this class, but McGivern is a good professor. He really cares about the students and wants them to succeed. He offers extra credit which is really helpful. I was often lost in lectures mostly because the class is so long its difficult to pay attention. He gives you study guides which the quiz/test questions come from.

McGivern's class is difficult but if you put in effort you will pass. There are 4 quizzes (lowest dropped) and 2 exams. Quizzes are lengthy but a study guide is provided for each one and around 70-100% of the questions on the quizzes and exams are directly from the study guides so if you do them, it is hard to fail. Also lots of extra credit.

You've been warned, take another teacher. 4 quizzes and 2 midterms. That's all you need to know. Literally talks all class and then tests you on what he talked about...... mind you this is a 3 hour class once a week so you have to pay attention the entire time. Honestly pointless. He likes to talk about himself a lot.

Honestly, Professor McGivern literally does not deserve these horrible reviews. Yeah, his class is hard. But if you do the study guides he hands out you're GUARANTEED at least a B+ or A- on his quizzes/midterms. Very intelligent and well spoken, lectures are interesting and he gives extra credit that gives you a 4% (!!) boost on your grade!

This class taught by Mcgivern is really really terrible. Holy moley is this the worst college professor in existence. Forced into this awful class because Robert is the only teacher. Worst boring lectures, barely goes over important information, and tests/quizzes are cookie-cutter questions. WARNING! DO NOT take this class!

Okay so there are 4 quizzes (which he all gives study guides for), a midterm, a final, and a hand-written paper. He also gives extra credit which is to write 4 more papers. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. Its a easy 4% to your grade. STUDY THE STUDY GUIDES, about 70% of it is on the Midterm and Final. Attendance is not mandatory, just go for quizzes and test.

His grading system is confusing and your overall grade is based basically off of you final and midterm. He gives extremely long lectures and his study guide is very vague.
