John is a really great professor, he's very casual. He specifically said that he didn't want to be called Professor Bagby, Mr. Bagby, etc. He tries to make lectures fun and interesting, which they were, as fun as lectures can get. There were about 6 quizzes, 1 group project and 1 exam, so classwork wasn't overwhelming.

He's an incredible persona nd very understanding, but only has quizzes and a couple finals. Makes it hard to get credit and it was really hard to get my grade up after one bad quiz grade. Very nice and presented material well but make sure you study for the quiz.

The tests are based on the notes but are pretty difficult. There are many requirements for this class. Including 30 additional shop hours, taking down both plays (about 5 hours each). One of which landed on OH fest. Physically & emotionally demanding class. No extra credit

I am currently taking John's scene design class and have also had him for stage lighting and theatre appreciation. Has a great passion for what he does and really cares about his students. He's always there to lend a hand and is a very fair grader and is very encouraging as well. Highly recommend him for anybody looking to take theatre courses!!!

I liked this class a lot. The lectures are interesting and there is the occasional quiz. He gives a study guide, but you need to study to get a high grade. The tests are fair. The group project at the end of the semester is fun and a good learning experience. However, it is hard to get an A in this class. Unlike most classes, you need a 96 to get A

He a really nice guy and is really passionate about what he does. The pop quizzes can be hard in the beginning but he gives a lot extra credit that in the end it wont effect your grade a lot. Be extremely detailed in play reviews for a 100. Not a blow off class like people think but is easy if you study. Only need the textbook for the final.

Great professor. Always willing to help. He assigns 5 quizzes and 3 tests. The quizzes are a little tricky, but tests are just 50 multiple choice. If you're going to take Theatre Aprreciation, definitely take it with Bagby!

Sweet guy who loves theatre. The first half of the semester is all powerpoints, The second you have a 10 person, 3 part group project, one of which you have to perform. He doesn't tell you until long after that the material presented by the groups in a span of three weeks is your ENTIRE FINAL. Basically, read the entire textbook or you're doomed.

Book use: Only for the last chapters that the final is on. Other tests are on his PowerPoints (posted on BlackBoard). Class is kinda boring, but it's a good tradeoff for an easy A. Pop quizzes are given with advanced warning; the only reason they're difficult is they're short answer when his other tests are multiple choice. 3 absences allowed.

There are 5 pop quizzes but they are only 10 points each. There are 2 unit tests plus the final. They aren't too hard you just need to study. There is a group project that is a grade booster and you only need to work on it in class. Study before class for pop quizzes and you should be okay.

Nicest teacher! we barely used the text book except for a finaly group project at the end where you had to summarize your section. He is really nice but his quizzes are kind of difficult if you don't pay attention in class. I never opened the book once but did pretty okay. I had a 1 for my midterm grade and still managed to pass with a C+

An A is a 96, total crap. His quizzes try to trick you. Cool guy, good professor but grading scale is too strict. Most gen eds have an A being above a 90 or 92, a 96 is nearly acing the class...it's a gen ed....

He's awesome and an excellent teacher. He explains the material very well and still makes it interesting! He explains using slides/powerpoint, so you don't really need to read the textbook that much. He has pop quizzes but he somewhat hints at it sometimes and the exams are easy as long as you study.

Takes attendance every class. Very nice guy! Reads straight off slides but makes them interesting with stories of personal experience. All slides on ANGEL. 3 tests all multiple choice. 1 group project at the end where you must read/and or act in front of the class, very easy grader on it! Recommend him for an easy grade.

Very helpful and understanding. Also very approachable. I told him I was absent because I was sick, and he marked it as an excused absence. If something doesn't make sense, he is more than willing to sit down and talk to you. It is obvious that he loves what he does.
