Comment:
This class is the horrible alternative to Professor Girty's Geol 100 class. There is no going over the book in class, no reliable powerpoint off of which to take notes (you have to listen very closely to what he says) and few reliable online resources. If you're trying to study, you better hope you took some good notes. Otherwise, you're SOL.

I enjoyed his class. 2 mids & 1 comp. final. Good for nature buffs. Small class size. The best advice I can give is to visit his web site and print out his practice exams & bring them to class & "fill in the blanks" during his lecture. The class WILL seem "hard" w/out doing so. Can get boring & he dims the lights so it's hard to NOT fall asleep.

This is the worst prof. I've ever had! Knows nothing new since the 60s so his lectures are outdated and WRONG. He holds himself in very high regard, and if you disagree, you're an idiot. (Even if you can prove your point with the physics!) He probably did write the positive comments-they match his language on his comment page on his site. STAY AWAY

Like he says "the only way to get an 'A' in his class is to know everything. No study guide given, just powerpoints in class; you are expected to learn from his lectures and from your own reading. Very few clues on what will be on test. Expect "everything" to be on the test

Ok, if you like geology and are majoring in this, this class may be for you. If you're just taking it as an upper division GE course I highly suggest you stay as far as you possibly can away from this guy. Class is a joke, he does not prepare you for the test whatsoever. You have to teach yourself by studying his past exams. What a waste.

I thought his lectures were straight-forward.It was all slides w/lectures and if you show up to class, take good notes, the tests should be fairly easy.He posts previous tests (except the Final)on his website,so you can study from those.I enjoyed the class and found it very interesting. You don't need the book, but I got it for reference.

Whoever reads this is going to have one MAJOR advantage. All you need to do is show up to class the first few days to be marked on the roll. On his syllabus he gives you the webaddy for practice exams. DO THOSE! Just use google, memorize the answers and you will ace the first 3 exams. Final is tougher but you will have 100% DO NOT BUY TEXTBOOK

Don't need the book, the class is all powerpoint, taking notes is a must!!! The tests are hard because of the format (one question will have mulitple answers) but if you go to all the classes you'll pass with no problem.

horribly boring. do not buy the book because you will never read any of it. look online for answers you don't know. do all of his past exams and take incredibly detailed notes, especially on ages of species. doesnt believe in computers and is far too old fashioned. BORING AND UNCLEAR

geez, where shall I start? DO NOT buy the book. I made the mistake of studying the book for the 1st exam and failed miserably. I aced the 2nd one by taking very good notes and studying from them. This dude is too old to dig up rocks, so he's trying to teach and he swears he has all these girlfriends.

If you can avoid it, do not take this class. Lectures are long and boring, with no clear structure. The text is awful as well. Take extremely detailed notes and know the material from the practice tests because there are no test reviews/preparations.

I took this guy in about 1980. I wish they had this service then. He is a good example of why there should not be a tenure system. If you take his class be prepared to be bored out of your mind and learn from someone who has basically done nothing in geology for the past 25 years. In fact he is us
