Jay Harris is an amazing professor. He is very specific and writes lectures without any notes. I would take him again if I could.

Never accurately says what's on tests, can never explain things correctly in-class, and always makes mistakes when teaching. Very slow at explaining and the class moves relatively fast. He should honestly just retire already.

I don't really understand all the negative feedback for professor Harris. Lectures aren't bad and the material is presented clearly. This course was challenging but fair. I learned a ton.

I have taken two classes with him(COMPE 270 and 572) and he has retired TWICE while I have been learning at SDSU. While he wasn't as bad in COMPE 270, COMPE 572 is enough for me to reconsider changing my major to Computer Science.

This professor seemed to care very little about the success of his students because of his inconsistent grading policies, mistakes made in the instructions of his exams, and his lateness to class. He had a hard time explaining the course material to students with different levels of understanding. The textbook was the only thing I learned from.

Ok guys, here is an honest review. Dr. Jay Harris was overall quite difficult and his teaching style was not for me. Homework is busywork, like the comment before me. Doesn't help with labs, you better find help with other students in class. Tests are HARD. He tricks you, and puts things you have never seen on them. Only 270 teacher at SDSU

One of the worst professors ever.1.You don't get the solution to the hws after you turn them in so you wouldn't know if you did it right or not2.Don't buy the book (since he doesn't use it at all)3.The only thing that you can use to prepare your self for his exams are lecture notes which are bunch of graphs and equations with no explanation.

While I can not say how this teacher acts in upper division classes, his COMPE 270 class was a nightmare! Homework was nothing more than busywork and not relevant to the exams. Harris' teaching methods are no better, makes sure to exclude certain material in lectures to surprise you on exams. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!

If you do the homework and the labs and NOT fail every test (3 mids, 1 final) you will pass with a C or better. Overall he is very straight-forward (sometimes) with the material. Tries to be funny but isnt. He is VERY tricky with the tests so learn from the practice ones and the hw and you should do well.

Great teacher! A little blunt at times, but he really wants his students to learn this and be prepared for future compe classes. The material itself is hard, but nonetheless its something that should be known. Recommend!

Stay away. I should've looked at ratemyprofessor before registering for his class. He constantly yells at class, reasoning for many lectures/lessons are "because I said so". Spends 45min doing his own problems, holds class after its out. Just terrible, should've retired a while ago. This class was a waste of my time and money. Period.

One of the better professors at SDSU. He genuinely cares for the students and will give great help to anyone that needs it. He won't have time if you are trying to pull a quick one on him, don't let his age deceive you.He has been in the industry for a long time and you can learn much from him. He is about to retire and it will be sad to see him go

I don't know why everyone hates him. Just understand the homework and labs and you will pass. He had a discussion class where he did homework problems and it was really helpful. He adds 1 curve-ball to the midterms and final so finish the easy problems early and spend all your time on the curve-ball question.

If you can, avoid him. He should have retired 5 years ago but Pres Weber won't bring new blood into SDSU Engineerng. In fact, don't go to SDSU at all if you want Engineering as your major - Go to Cal Poly SLO.

Entire class is curved. Expect to do all the homework to understand the material. Make sure to attend classes as whatever he goes over appears to be on exam. Don't bother looking at previous exam, totally unhelpful. Just do all the work in class and the labs and you will be fine.

Tests are impossible. Whatever he says is on the test isn't. Has an "under the radar" lab in the course that that will suck away your life and your other class study time. STAY AWAY! HE IS A WILDCARD !!!
