Comment:
Took Chem in first year and failed by a percent. This class was very difficult to stay focused in and there was very little help provided by the prof. I think he is a nice guy but his lectures were very boring.

Thank god hes retiring now because ive never had a more boring, monotone professor. Test are way to short so one question can screw you over and there is only two midterms. He uses wileyplus which ill never understand why. Seems like a nice guy maybe he was just done with teaching.

Sandy Briggs seems like he is probably an OK guy, but let me tell you - this guy is some next level boring. He is VERY monotone, and is often hard to hear. To be fair, the material of chem 150 is super dry, but Briggs did not make it any better. Midterms and the final were alright; you can pretty much get an A from pure, brain-dead memorization.

Comment:
Briggs can get very monotone and hard to focus in class, so I didn't find any reason to go to class when i can get better explanation online or from the text. He seems like a genuinely caring guy, and has a bit of dry humour but not a great lecturer. Overall, wouldn't take his class if i could, get ready to study from youtube and the textbook.

This prof clearly cares about his material, but fails to pass on that feeling to his students. The course is difficult and made even harder by Sandy's inability to explain the concepts clearly. You have to attend this class for iClicker participation, but don't kid yourself and learn through the textbook and MasteringChemistry or even a tutor.

Avoid this professor if you can, I was unable to focus at all in his class because of his horrible monotone voice. Doesn't explain the material well at all, he basically just rewrites the textbook onto slides.

The most boring prof I've ever had. His voice is low and quiet and just drags onnn, making it extremely easy to fall asleep in his lectures. He uses iClicker points as attendance, so you have to go to lecture (even though he just reads off the slide and you can get all the same info from the textbook). Textbook will save you! Luckily an easy read.

If you're a quick learner and pick up on chemisty fairly quick, pick Wan. However, if you are intimidated or if you struggle with chemistry, choose Briggs. Briggs, although incredibly monotone, keeps track of electrons on the board and is very thorough. I had Wan for Chemistry for Chem 231 and found he breezes through so much, Briggs will elaborate

Seems like a nice guy, just has a very monotone voice and talks, not teaches.. he is clearly very intelligent and knows his stuff, he just feels to old to be teaching a class of 300

He takes down valid class information beofre it had even been up for a wekend, leaving anyone who hasn't copied it down in time because they were busy behind the rest of the class.

Going into this class, I was scared because I had heard bad things about Briggs. However, I was SO pleasantly surprised. Yes, he is monotone and can be hard to listen to, but he is extremely passionate about the material and really cares about you doing well. His tests are SUPER fair (make sure to study old finals!). Overall, great guy.

If you go to his office hours, he explains a lot more then. Lectures are sometimes boring but sometimes you can't get all the marks just by looking at the course booklet we had to buy. Lots of it comes from WileyPlus I guess.

I liked his character, since he tried to crack some random and twisted jokes, or he just made us laugh without even trying. Though his lectures always made me sleepy and was sometimes hard to focus.

Briggs is an interesting guy - monotone and seemingly bored at times (although perhaps due to the fact that his knowledge of org chem vastly exceeds anything taught in 232) yet incredibly receptive to in-class questions and office hour queries. sit near the front of the class so you don't miss his incredibly disparaging and sarcastic jokes!

Briggs is pretty monotone when he teaches, which can make it hard to focus in class. You probably won't like him at the start of the class, but he grows on you over the term. Surprisingly funny guy at times, and when he is doing review classes and not just lecturing he is much more concise and teaches the material well.

Dr. Briggs does little else than read directly off the prepared power point slides.
