Peter is honestly awesome. He is always there to answer questions and never makes you feel silly or dumb for asking them. He even usually gives you a nudge in the right direction and gives really good feedback. He is the nicest and so helpful, really cares about the student's experience and wants you to learn. Great guy.

Comment:
When I took the Course a few years ago. We only got a text from Seyhan Ege. Needless to say that i tried scouring the internet looking for practice problems. This pales in comparison to what my friends who went to UBC got. I found the course to be deficient. I think that Doctor Mars is not the best person to teaching.

No surprises by Peter Marrs. He very helpfully pointed out what sort of questions we should expect on the exams. If you enjoy ochem, then take this course. The course pack is more than enough to acquire whatever grade you're looking to get.

The Seyhan Ege text book is not very good and there were no other problem sets. Not my favourite instructor.

Peter is well-respected. Flawlessly covers exactly what's required to do well on his tests. Very approachable and helpful at any time, including while he's working in lab or doing what chem profs do outside of class. 5 quizzes instead of midterms, worst quiz dropped. Final is very fair and reflects his previous finals quite well. You got this.

Dr. Marrs made organic chemistry a very manageable class and I really recommend taking it with him. He did an amazing job of the lab (it goes great with the course and is interesting), and gave clear lectures. His testing style was appreciated (smaller tests instead of large midterms) and he makes sure you know what to study. Final exam very fair.

Engaging lectures, clear grading criteria, and awesome lab. Clearly, the man eats, breathes, sleeps chem. Best lab I took in my first two years at UVIC - coordinated brilliantly with lecture, and actually fun and interesting (as opposed to first year which is just stress stress and more stress). Final was extremely fair. Take 232 with Marrs!

He gave quizzes (best 4 out of 5) instead of midterms which allowed for a less stressful semester. He is really easy-going prof.

Peter has always been very helpful - he really goes above and beyond when I ask questions (and I ask a lot of them, usually about literature topics). Down to Earth guy, a little socially awkward but, hey, that's cool.

Overall great prof! Clear explanations and writes out detailed notes instead of just rushing through powerpoint slides. Fair tests, kept on schedule and also funny and approachable. This was my last required chemistry course at UVic but I would happily take another one if Mars was the lecturer.
