Easygoing and committed to his students. Very knowledgeable and great with lectures in his subject area. May be a little strict on the grammatical and typographical details of your papers (he likes serif fonts.)

really nice guy and really smart, lectures give a ton of info but you can get it all from the textbook if you miss a class. a ton of readings not all are necessary, focus on the ones that you go over in discussion. tests are a pain but if you know your stuff theyre pretty easy. lenient grader and tells you EXACTLY whats gonna be on the test.

Go to class and read the texts. His lectures are so articulated and well delivered that you have to pay close attention to catch it all. He is extremely high strung, but a great professor. His tests are hard.

Very intelligent, yet very personable and helpful. He's always more than willing to make himself available & was a huge help in finding sources for my research paper. Yes, his humor can be dry but it's kinda what makes him likeable, and the class is NOT as boring as some people say!

I loved Prof. Semmel! Such a nice guy! He really knew his stuff and was easily accessible. There are a lot of readings but he gives your possible essay questions for the final and midterm, which makes the exams fair and non-threatening. I would def. thake him again.

A really nice guy who wants you to do well. Is willing to work with you at length to make that happen. So many readings that you cannot do them all, but do some. IDs on the midterm were impossible, but totally reasonable on the final. For both exams, he gives you possible essay topics and puts most of them on the exam! Not too hard if you try.

Extremely dry and boring, but wants you to do well. Way too much reading that is not needed. Gives exam questions before the test but his IDs are impossible

lectures were a bit dry and unexciting but overall semmel is a good professor, he gives two midterms (20%) a NON-research paper (20%) and a final (40%) and will account for improvement in final grade... really nice guy, explains exactly what tests will be like, but doesn't just hand out the material

Ok, so the lectures were drier than week old dog poop. However, all the test material is covered by the readings (book and electronic reserve), which honestly are a bit extensive. But, he is very willing to help you out. How many other profs hold office hours at brew-ha-ha?

Although I originally loathed the dry lecture style,I found this class to be one of my favorite. The man knows virtually everything, and he has no problem sharing it with his students, before or after class. The text was also enjoyable.Tests were challenging, however not so much that I did not perform.
