Need to attend class or else you won't know a thing. This man is a precious gem and inspirational. I won't lie and say this class is an easy A, but I really enjoyed it so if you don't mind a little work it is a good class to take. I found Barry taught the course well, but you definitely need to do the readings in order to better understand

if u miss a lecture, good luck. the powerpoint isnt very detailed so u need to be there for lectures, he also doesnt explain as much but rather recounts things. his assignments are difficult

I loved going to every single class of his. He is so engaging and well spoken it is amazing to sit there and just listen to him. he goes extremely into depth in lectures and always provides time for discussion and question. one of the smartest profs I have ever had if I could take this class Again I would.

Dr. Allen is a really passionate prof and you can tell he really enjoys his field. Lectures were always interesting, informative, and engaging. He answers questions thoroughly and really makes this intro to historical philosophy fun to learn.

Has a deep love and knowledge of the material that shows through in the depth of insight given to the (relatively short) reading passages assigned. Engages with the class and loves to discuss questions asked whether during class or afterwards. Has one or two slides with points and discusses for the lecture. Miss a class? I took this class because Dr. Allen really is a persona. He's such a big deal in the philosophy department. While lecturing about Zarathustra, Dr. Allen's voice took on an embodied character, and he told us how Zarathustra came to town to spill his giant load of wisdom on the people. This is serious business. I'd never learn this in science class.

Barry Allen is my favourite prof. His lectures are incredible and he really knows what he is talking about. This was hands down my most interesting course and if you don't like Barry Allen... I don't think we're going to have anything in common because this man is incredible.

Dr Allen is amazing. He keeps you so intrigued during lectures, that you almost don't want to stop to take notes, you just want to listen. Also loved that he didn't stop to take questions in the middle of lecture; it always annoys me when profs go into "discussion" mode and take useless questions from students who just want a reason to talk.

Dr. Allen is a formidable lecturer. In just a few classes his intellectualism is very evident. I found myself writing down so many useful and worthwhile ideas, I couldn't keep up with all of them. There is still one particular lecture in which a few good ideas weren't jotted down, and I still wish I was able to have transcribed everything.

Utterly amazing during a lecture. Dr. Allen has an amazing ability to present potentially confusing ideas in an extremely clear manner. He's actually so good at condensing the course material that I didn't have to do a single reading (aside from using references in essays). Very calm and humble disposition as well, takes interest student questions.

Every Mac students must have the Barry Allen experience at some point. Fantastic lecturer with such a great personality. Very helpful to students. The class was great and I'm sad he doesn't teach more courses on the subject.
