I'll give him the benefit of the doubt since I barely did any homework but I feel like I should have been able to pass just by attending the classes. What he teaches and the homework are related but feel like 2 separate things (for example imaginary numbers were in the homework and he didn't mention it until a chapter later... it was on a quiz)

Mack is a nice guy but a bad teacher he covers super easy examples and the homework is all fairly simple but the tests are complete different!!! Its so frustrating to think you know all the material but hes like guess what it just got harder.

If you show up, do EC and try very hard on take home assignments you can get above 80% for sure. The hw assigned would take hours and i didn't always have time, the tests are based on you doing thatHW. Test questions can be dumb but there are so many points outside that you CAN succeed with decent amount of effort. You will learn more than average!

Had an absolute terrible experience with this professor I tried asking for his help because I wasn't understanding and instead he told me to quote on quote "just drop my class and stop wasting my time you probably wont pass anyway" by the way I am in a new professors class now and she is amazing I am passing with 102% IN HER CLASS.

I always aim for 90 or above in all my classes, but Jesus Christ, I can't do well in this class no matter how hard I try. The tests are NOTHING like what is covered in the homework/lectures. There is no organized structure, I feel like I am teaching myself. He's a nice guy and gives out a lot of extra credit, but he's a terrible teacher.

Mack's class is difficult to follow. I would not recommend it for anyone who doesn't already excel in math as his lectures are not very grounded. I ended up teaching myself from the textbook for the majority of the semester as it seems he expects you to already understand the concepts prior to taking the class. Avoid this teacher if you can.

Upper level courses like this should have the best instructors, not the worst. How does this guy get away with it? NIC has to know how terrible he is after years of student feedback.

Mack is very smart but not smart enough to learn how to teach. He explains things in a way that makes sense in his brain, but for undergraduates, he cannot explain concepts in an organized way. He's willing to spend class answering questions, then expects you to teach yourself. Take this course at another college, where the teachers can teach.

If you are thinking about taking this class, I would think again. This college algebra class was extremely hard. I am usually a straight A student and this class was impossible. The professor is hard to understand and does not readily reply to emails. The tests are extremely difficult and usually have no reviews. Save your self a major headache! ;)

Mack is a good person. But a terrible teacher. Very disorganized, makes students wait for getting work graded, has no idea how to teach the level of students at this small local community college. He teaches as though he thinks his students are at Harvard. The only way he can be keeping this job is he must be friends with his boss Get another job

He uses MML but posts a months work of homework at a time, it being due by exam date. Maybe it's plenty of leniency if you already have a firm grasp of the material, for me, it led to ZERO structure. He'd basically go over students' questions from the homework for class. It was all over the place. Hello? what are we learning today? Who knows!?

Its easier to learn from the textbook than it is from eric mack. Passive aggressive and physically impossible to learn from. He just reads problems from the book and skims through how to do them instead of being thorough and doesnt post assignments or due dates ever. Take the class if you can learn the material on your own, you won't learn from him

Enthusiastic and very informative if you have a solid foundation in math and know how to talk about it, but struggles to catch on when a student is falling behind and more often than not just won't realize what he needs to explain unless you know how to ask for the exact information you need in mathematical terms.

1-2 hrs a day teaching myself the material from the book and khan because he teaches like you already have a phd, skipping over crucial information. lack of detail in assignment expectations. i go to tutoring 2x per week because he was heavily passive agressive the one time i went to office hours. seems smart but is a mess when it comes to teaching

Great character, humorous, leaves out crucial information on how we finish assignments, teaches like we should know content before starting the class, never responds to emails, does not keep up with grading, majority has less to do with math and music and has more to do with philosophy and religion, does not keep class updated on major assignments.

I think underneath he is a nice person, but he cannot teach well, and he is almost aggressively smart. He looks nervous sometimes when asked a question and makes you feel like how dare you ask that, you should already know that. Sorry, dude, I am in your class in order to learn from you. Try doing your job.

Mack is very knowledgeable, but when it comes to teaching his students he does NOT do a great job at explaining and I leave the class confused. He has very limited office hours so I cannot really ask for help. He is passive aggressive towards students and it makes it uncomfortable to speak to him. Overall, I would not recommend his class.

Reading through these reviews, that last one sounds like the instructor himself, that is just the way he talks, "conceptual concepts". He seems smart, at least that is the persona he presents of himself, but a blundering kind of smart, almost like, "Sorry guys, I'm way to smart to explain this at your level". Makes you feel like an idiot.

Lectures were fastened upon conceptual concepts, in opposition to working through specific problems. An extensive amount of methodical practice was necessary to succeed on exams. Occasionaly exam questions would deviate from rational expectation of student's knowlege.

Okay as someone taking his musical tuning class. I DON'T RECOMMEND HIM. CHOOSE A DIFFERENT INSTRUCTOR FOR YOUR CLASS IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE WITH PROCRASTINATION/PRIORITIZATION. Very few of the assignments on canvas have posted due dates, and not everything counts on your grade. I currently have multiple 0s in the class because of this due date system.
