Willing to help you if you ask for it, very friendly (to me, at least). As long as you keep up with the reading there's no reason not to do decent in his classes- you will get out of them what you put in. Mumbles occasionally and the material can be dry, but he tries his best.

Hard to peg this guy as 'good' or 'bad'. He mumbles quite a bit and as many reviews on here state, he jumps around in his lectures and they're almost impossible to follow. However, he does take the time to help out students who ask for it and he's a really nice guy. Personally, his lectures are what really turned me off and I eventually withdrew.

A very frustrating prof. He's a nice guy; very helpful, knows his stuff and makes time for students who need it. However, he assigns a BOAT load of reading to do - I mean 100's of pages. His lectures are also hard to follow: mumbles quite a bit, talks to the board, and he jumps all over the place. If you're good at history, he's your man.

Comment:
Malcolm assigns a lot of reading and expects the students to cover these readings, his grading is fair but can be harsh if he feels the effort is lacking. Malcolm is always willing to help, even if it means making time for students away from the university. Malcolm has an incredible amount of wisdom he is willing to share with students who care.

A good teacher in general. If you are a true history buff you understand his passion for the subject, does tend to jump around but you get over it. Pay attention and you will do fine. Also very helpful, ask him anything and he will try to do his best to help. Look forward to taking more classes with him.

His lectures are long and boring. He talks for 75 minutes, sometimes referencing dates, sometimes not- but he skips around like crazy. Let us not forget the ridiculous amount of reading he assigns.

ANNOYING. He mumbles and talks to the board quite a lot, and his lectures have no structure! The story-format would be fine if he didn't jump all over the place -__- Also, the amount of reading he assigns is INSANE! Unless you want to read literally 1000's of pages of stuff you have to know, skip this guy.

Lectures are extremely hard to follow because he tells them with stories. His mumbling makes it hard to understand what he's talking about, and when you finally catch on you have no idea how he got to what he's talking about. The insane amount of readings he assigns are dry and boring, and there's a LOT of reading!

Reading, lots and lots of reading. Literally 100's upon 100's of pages. Two books for the lectures, 1 book for a group project and 1 book for an essay. His lectures are near impossible to follow because he jumps all over the place and mumbles quite a bit. He's a nice guy and cracks a few good jokes, but as a professor I found him unbearable.

Not a very fun class to sit through. He mumbled quite a bit or talked to the board. His style of teaching are mostly story like so no hard notes, but his thoughts often are not linear. Very detailed course outline, follow that along with the textbook and you're good. KNOW YOUR FACTS!

Had a hard time following his lectures, told them in more of a story format rather than giving you the important details. Didn't enjoy attending his classes and couldn't pay much attention when I did. Speaks with colloquialisms so you don't understand factual details about the event. Textbook isn't very user-friendly.

The best teacher I have this semester. Passionate about teaching and history and this is shown in his teaching. At first I found the way he jumped around hard to follow but this didn't even bother me after a month or so.

Engaging. Better in seminar classes than lectures. Teaches some of the most interesting history classes offered at the University of Lethbridge. Somewhat scattered lecture format; most of the interesting (but not necessarily evaluated) things to learn in his courses are found therein. Do your readings and you'll do fine in his class.

Oh malcom... he is a funny guy and all, and in the long run very entertaining... Unfortunately, you learn nothing in his class, and he gives horrible notes. Do not take a class from him unless you are prepared to do 1000 pages of reading for his class (and I'm NOT kidding here). Interesting guy, but hard to get anything worth value from.
