I enjoyed his class, great dry wit. He simplified things, making them understandable. Tests were hard. Study HARD and you'll be fine. Not the easiest course but I learned a lot.

Extremely interesting class and Dr. Flanagan is an extremely helpful prof. The paper is a bit daunting and his final definitely can kill you if you're even a little unprepared. Yes, he's right leaning - he was Harper's former aid for crying out loud. Don't take his classes if that's a problem. That said, I found him fair about dissenting (my) views

The guy is a legend. A real privilege to have been taught by him. Knows his stuff very well and knows how to teach - may be not that appealing for lower courses but great for higher courses that need of his experience and knowledge.

The worst prof I have ever met. Mumbles everything he says, goes off track and can turn the most interesting subject into a snore-fest with his monotonous voice. Grades extremely difficulty.

Dr. Flanagan is easily one of the best profs I've had at the U of C. Very enthusiastic about the material. Encourages participation. Fair marker.

Great Proff, a sense of humour, can appear distant, but helpful when you ask for it. A great class to take and the content is of value to a career. Assignments are a lot of work, but get easier with each one. Don?t come in late, it drives him crazy. The final is a grade killer, so don?t slack off on the assignments. His class is worth the stress.

If I didn't know his background, I would not guess in the least that he was a conservative. He presents things in an unbiased manner. A little distant in his interaction with students, but very professional. Never mentioned the Cadman thing. Don't bother with the tutorials. Read the main text's chapters a couple times over and you should do fine.

In my poly-sci class, every lecture covered one chapter in the text, very easy to follow along. First mid-term as a class did poorly so he gave everybody an extra 5 points. E-mails you back the same day. Good proff, good sense of humor, and as has been said many times, conservative but unlike many profs, doesn't preach it, which is nice.

Obviously a very intelligent man. The lectures were a little dry and he occasionally made straightforward topics seem confusing, but overall a great teacher. He is conservative, but he presents material in an unbiased manner.

Awesome. Is he super right wing? Yes. Does this affect his ability to convey the material in an unbiased manner? Nope, at least in my opinion. Great prof who definitely doesn't hide his political leanings but anyone who says it skews his teaching is just plain wrong.

People who hate Tom Flanagan are jealous because he's smarter than they are and he points out fallacies in their arguments. If you want a good laugh, sit in on one of his classes and listen to lefty students try and "debate" him. Hilarious! Seriously though, the man is a genius. You can't call yourself a conservative if you haven't taken his class

Biopolitcs=Awe. A very illuminating class, but Flan's a bit of a sorcerer, he's very rigorously logical, which makes for clarity in teaching, but glosses over a lot of nuance and complexity, also he sometimes just teaches ideology which is unhelpful. Challenges students w/o being really confusing, but comes off as arrogant and aloof.

Obviously a very smart fellow. but one of those scary smart fellows. Beware of anyone who believes THEY are right ALL THE TIME. He came across as a minor prophet for a cause, very intelligently, (though not necessarily correctly) knocking down his bogeymen. And I stress 'men'. His views of women, natives, 'others', were dragged from a cave.

Really interesting topics. Don't talk in class. Never contradict him. He is smarter than you. Don't have any grammatical errors on papers. Don't spell anything wrong. Never contradict him. Remember all that and you'll do fine.

Yes he is conservative, but I find it a nice change from the leftist bs I get spoonfed in all of my other classes. People only complain about the lack of "diverse opinion" in classes headed by conservatives, but classes taught by leftists are just as bad (or worse!)
