Dr. Mandy is a super sweet and caring professor. She made her lectures fun and interactive and it was clear how much she loves biology and wants to share that with others. Lectures were thorough and covered everything you needed to know for the tests. She always made sure to be accessible to students and was always willing to answer questions.

I took 200 with Sieverman+Schivell, and Dr. Schivell is super sweet. Online lectures with her were a bit more interactive than her counterpart, Sieverman. She uses POGILs but I honestly didn't mind because they reinforce the more test-heavy concepts. Her cat is super adorable too.

I feel like she makes me love biology. I tool Biol200 with Mandy and Katie, I could always feel their passion to biology and love to students in there class. What is more, they are really nice and all the contents they taught are so clear and learnable , which means you will not feel like not understanding what the said in lecture. Take their class

Dr. Mandy is one of the best professors I've ever had. She's definitely a very experienced teacher so she's not only knowledgeable about biology but also about how students learn best. Like Dr. Katie Sieverman, she makes herself very available for outside help and really genuinely cares about student learning and always meets you where you are.

I really enjoyed this course vs 180. I think her lectures were much more clear and did a good job breaking down the difficult concepts we had to learn. To me, she was very approachable and was happy to answer questions or re-explain during lecture. This class is concept heavy and you need to have a good handle on the processes to do well on exams.

I took Bio 200 with Dr. Schivell and Dr. Sieverman (duel lecturers). The tone and language of the lectures are patronizing and explanations of the material are oversimplified. This class was my worst experience by far at UW. The labs are good, but the lectures are almost unbearable. They also had a very limited knowledge of chemistry.

I loved taking cell bio with Mandy, she said the course used to have exams but she doesn't do them anymore so its all about the research on the molecular insulin response pathway. Weekly research papers and BQMOC assignments for them as well as "method cartoons" but overall all not a labor intensive or heavy memorization class and I enjoyed it :).

Do not recommend taking this course. It is all based off of reading and summarizing research papers based on insulin response but she does not give you any background on the papers in class (only explains them after you have submitted the assignment). The grading is very unforgiving and you will get docked points unavoidably.

This is absolutely the best class I've taken here! She cares a lot about students, and gives SO many opportunities for help (Friday lectures are office hours and you can ask her questions directly, it's awesome). I highly recommend taking a class with Dr. Schivell, she was so enthusiastic that I never wanted to miss class. Also, POGILS are helpful!

Very unclear with what she expects students to know and teaches material in a very surface-level way but the tests cover it on a deeper level with information we never discussed or read about. Didn't learn much from lecture and had to teach myself a lot from the text book, even though she claimed we wouldn't even need the textbook.

Love this class! Lectures are great. She gives really awesome test previews and a lot of practice problems that help a lot for the exams. Reading before lecture is really import if you actually want to understanding lecture.

BIOL 240 Intensive Introductory Biology: Human Health Emphasis It is 15 credits and all of intro biology in ONE 10 WEEK SUMMER QUARTER! It is not easy but doable. Schivell was one of three profs. Her lectures were clear and test questions were ok, she needs to work on making test questions clear about what she is asking which she self admits.

I took this class to boost my grade however I was wrong. I ended the class with one of my worst grades ever. The reason is of the grading. If you have been getting A's on papers, homeworks, and tests in other class well you are wrong because the grader which is usually not her grades like no one I have ever experienced before.

Schivell explained concepts very well, but when tests came around, they were much more difficult than what was mentioned in lectures and in practice problems. I really recommend doing all practice problems and going to class everyday. Go to TA office hours with questions!

She's obviously really sweet and cares about her students, but her exams are pretty damn hard compared to the level of understanding she leads to you believe you need during lecture. She seriously underemphasizes memorization of topics (instead focusing on general understanding of processes) but you definitely need it for exams, so watch out!

Amanda is the worse professor I've ever had. She is nice, but is a terrible professor. Her exams are not fair & are ridiculously hard. I learned a lot and invested to much time and effort, and despite all of it, I did terrible in the class (even though I did very well in Bio180). Bio200 is the worse grade I've had at UW & I'm a junior. Save ur GPA!

This is such a weed out class, it's ridiculous. Schivell is actually an amazing teacher and you will learn tons, but that doesn't mean you will do well in the class. Tests cover ALL hypotheticals like mutations and such that are never covered in class. After a reasonable 1st quiz they purposely made all tests extremely hard to have less high scores
