The class itself isn't bad. No need for the book he uses as the textbook. Types up a lecture outline and puts it on the overhead, but will NOT put a page back up after he puts a new one up. I asked him if he could put a page back up for a second so I could get the last part copied, and he was VERY rude about it, and didn't put it back up.

I liked Professor Ford and found him quite knowledgable, but my TA (though he was funny at times and knew his material) was the harshest grader! I never made above an 85 on an exam and I practically quoted the notes and material from the book in relevant essays. Still I made an A, all I can think is attendance made the difference. GO TO CLASS!

It's more about your T.A. than the professor. Mine (Burgess) was actually a pretty harsh grader. You have to write every detail possible. Getting an A is definitely do-able, but it takes some work. I studied for HOURS for every test. One of the essays on each test is ALWAYS the same as one of the papers you wrote in recitation for that section.

He is a very capable teacher. Some of the previous comments may be because of freshman shell-shock or something but, you will learn alot. He is very intelligent, evidenced in his lectures, but you must do alot of work and make sure to take good notes and be prepared for the tests, which are predictable but challenging. Buy all of the books

i literally wanted to kill myself in this class. Unless you want to read 40 pages a week, write a 2 page paper every week, study for 8 hours and make an 80 because the TA's REFUSE to give anything above an 80 in there, then i suggest DO NOT TAKE THIS HORRID CLASS. plus mandatory attendance and horribly boring.

This class is AWFUL. Dr. Ford doesn't cover material well and doesn't engage the class at all. He just drones. The TA's are terrible. His outlines are useless and if you manage to stay awake you will have a hard time getting down all the stuff he covers. Don't take this class/teacher unless absolutely necessary.

Dr. Ford's a great teacher! The TAs are extremely hard graders though. They do try to help a bit for students understanding. But, Dr. Ford. He speaks well and covres alot of material. Just go to class and be prepared to write.... A ton.

So Dr. Ford seems like a nice guy but the TA's need to chill out. They are seriously crazy and want you to do bad. I took a 100 level course and they treated it like a 500 level course.

Dr. Ford is my fav. history prof. and one of the best! I wish I could have him for every class. Pleasure to have him again. Grades honest and fair. Go to class, do the work and you'll do fine! Such a sigh of relief from other stressful classes. Very clear outlines and expectations to succeed in hist classes. If you don't do good, you didn't try.

Great teacher. Lecture outlines were clear and easy to follow. You do have a short 2 page paper each week but if you do the reading and follow the simple instructions you should hve no problem getting an A on the papers and an A in the class. 3 tests including the final, 15 multiple choice, and 2 essays,, 1 short and one long, all based on lectur

This is a really easy Distance Ed. class. As long as you go to the optional Saturday sessions, you'll do fine on the tests. DVDs are really a waste of time. The book reviews are really easy to do and don't require much effort. One of the best, easiest history classes I've had a USC and I'm a history major...

Ford is a nice guy, very smart, knows a lot about what hes is saying. The TAs are the people that grade you. ALL ESSAY and like 15 mc ?'s. Grade harshly on little details. You need to write every detail on the essay to get a good grade. Takes attendance every day.

Not a terrible class or professor. Taking attendence in a 300 person lecture is a bit extreme, plus his lectures are boring, basic, and you have to listen to his voice. TA's do all the grading/work, he just recites what's on the overhead.

Boring class, but Professor Ford knows history well. This is another class where the TA will make or break your experience. My TA was great, but the discussion sessions as a whole were a bit pointless. Take good notes and go to class in order to get an A.
