The worst professor I've ever had. Will not respond to any emails, won't return papers for months, does not provide enough description for papers, provides no feedback whatsoever. She claims the class is discussion based but talks the entire time about meaningless personal stories that hardly even relate to the chapters read.

She only showed up to class three times the entire semester, and did a horrible job of communicating with students about details of the assignments as well as the due dates. She was a nice woman, but didn't provide much feedback at all, and was a tough grader for someone who didn't provide any help. So much busy work. Worst class experience ever.

Gives far too much work as well as never being reachable via email. Not understanding at all that the mistakes her students make are because of her inability to teach. Hides work from her students. Gives work without thinking about the fact that you are taking 4 other classes. Assigns multiple papers at a time. Just a bad teacher and mean woman.

This is a communication class, and there was minimal communication with the students. There are write three papers, and then if you take this class during the pandemic, she makes you write a paper midterm and final. We have a 7-page paper due on the same day we have a 5-7 page final due. Not clear at all, and communication is horrible. BEWARE!!!

She gives WAY too much work. The paper's she has you do are irrelevant and tedious. Don't expect to be able to spend time on any other classes if you take her because the amount of work she gives will take over. She also never responds to emails and her syllabus is vague so be prepared to ask her questions that SHE should have stated.

The absolute worst professor at Marist!! Gives completely unnecessary work and is very sassy. Talks forever, sometimes not even giving the students a chance to speak. Keeps us 10 minutes late and assigns an insane amount of papers. Gave us an 8 page research paper then a 6 page final and 7 journal entries all in one week. DONT TAKE HER!!

She talks for the whole period and often keeps us 10-15 minutes late, making me late for other classes or meetings multiple times. She doesn't put basic instructions in the syllabus, we had to keep asking her to repeat them because they were no where to be found. Study guides for tests are over 100 questions long and do not cover material on test.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS AS AN ELECTIVE. 5 long papers, one midterm, a presentation, and 15 journal entries. Shannon Roper made our lives a living hell. Class is way harder than it needs to be. Unless you need Gender to graduate, pick a different elective and save the headache. She also rambles until the very last second of every class.

Great, caring professor. Pay attention and I'm sure you'll enjoy the class. She's very flexible and understanding and makes an effort to connect with students. Very much look forward to having more professors like her.

Shannon Roper will make your life so much harder than it needs to be. She gives so much work, holds you until the end of class by rambling on about the same topic, DOESN'T POST THE POWERPOINTS covered in class (so get ready to take notes), and never responds to her emails so you have to track her down. I would save yourself the headache.

Dr. Roper is a great professor and if you take COM 400 you will surely be able to learn a lot about gender, culture and communication. For her class, attendance is very important as well as class discussion of the topics. Beyond class discussion there are a few exams and a few papers. I would recommend taking a class from her.

This professor is really great at what she does but is really not great at helping the students. The work load is very high and she is a really tough grader. In a class that is pretty self explanatory i didn't really learn anything. Needs to cut back the work load and teach better through example.

This professor loves to talk! Most of what we discussed in Gender, Culture & Communication was interesting and Roper is very knowledgeable. However, I was very vocal in class but got average points in the participation department come finals time. Also received no feedback on several big projects, just posted grades. Grading took far too long

I've had Dr Roper for a Com elective and Gender Com. Both were great classes, esp gender com. Not a lot of reading, but would be helpful to read if you want to participate in class. Discussions were interesting and the class really got into into it. She's very understanding and really respects her students!

Roper is an excellent professor. She's very knowledgable about her field and she's able to communicate her knowledge to the class. There's a decent amount of work, but it's nothing too difficult or time-consuming. Definitely take her if you're a Communications major.

This class was actually really interesting. It is a decent amount of work, but none of it is hard. The three papers and two presentations are easy also. The lectures are simple and informative. The exams can also be a little tricky. However, for the most part it was really interesting and a pretty easy course.

Professor Roper is very knowledgeable and is very helpful. She is extremely clear, but the class is a decent amount of work. Journals every week, three papers, a couple presentations, a question every class, and some homework. She is funny but can be a little condescending to some students, which can make for an uncomfortable moment sometimes!

Lottttttttta work. Lotta work. Reading every class, journals every week, 2 papers, 1 exam. 2 missed classes allowed. That said, she's very nice, very helpful, very knowledgeable, and due to the attendance policy, you'll pretty much have to pass. Take it, it's a good upper level Comm class.
