Class was very difficult and the quizzes were impossible for me. One tiny fact would be pulled from a large work and was expected to be memorized.

Professor Westra is amazing! Take her if you can. She is very helpful and cares about her students. She is very knowledgeable and the classes are always interesting. There are unannounced quizzes, and the tests are all essay, but if you do the readings and pay attention in class, it isn't a problem! Awesome! Highly recommend taking her class!

She brings you candy, who doesn't love that? I hated the content of ENG 225, but she's a sweet (yet sometimes) confused old woman. I wouldn't mind taking a class from her again

I have had prof westra for 2 classes. LOVED her ENG 335 class! However, ENG 225..not a fan. Responses are almost impossible to get an A on. She's a tough grader. Find another professor for ENG 225

Professor Westra is great! I was a little intimidated at first but she is so sweet and definitely a fair grader. There were two 5-6 page papers and a few pop quizzes on readings but they were never that long. So do the readings, listen in class and take notes. I didn't study for the midterm and ended up with a B+. TAKE THIS PROF :)

Good professor but a little bit tough. Make sure you stay on top of your reading because there are pop quizzes almost every class. Papers aren't too difficult but she tends to grade a bit difficult. Essay exams are open book but the reading you have to do for each class is really long sometimes. Good professor overall though.

Prof. Westra is one of the easiest graders I've found at GV. I am not a great writer but have received A's on every paper so far. This class is almost a blow-off as long as you read the assigned readings. I can't believe people think she's a hard grader. She is so nice and sweet and very helpful!

Took her twice. Very receptive to students who go in for help. If you take her class seriously and do the work she is a very fair grader. She knows literature and makes it interesting. She was a wonderful professor and a great lady, extremely intelligent. HIGHLY recommended.

I enjoyed the class, but I did not enjoy Prof. Westra. She is a very nice lady, but she grades way too hard. There are also pop quizzes almost every day, and the papers are never up to her level of satisfaction. The class discussions never went anywhere meaningful for me. Honestly, find another prof. unless you are okay with those things.

I LOVED this prof. Although she can be a tough grader, she does it to make you a better writer. Class discussion was great, and if you didn't understand the text the discussion helped to clear up any confusion. She loves what she does, and she has been the best prof I've had. I am now taking her 226 class, and I can't wait! TAKE THIS PROF!!!!

Knowledgeable and passionate, but definitely not easy. She makes the class interesting, but she is a tough grader, so be prepared to work for your grade. She was very nice and helpful, always more than willing to help you out without telling you the answers to the questions. She really seems to want her students to learn, which is refreshing.

Skip this prof unless u can suck up & not vomit. Assigns her own literary work as 1st reading - if you don't love it & gush over it she writes nasty comments about u being insensitive, she filled every white space, front & back of my essay with why I should have liked it. Don't express opinions diff fr hers or LOOK OUT.

Do the readings because she has a lot of pop quizzes. She is a good professor, however, she makes it known which authors she likes and dislikes. Hard grader, but you come out of the class with a lot of new information.

She is a good professor and is interesting. However, she tends to be "preacy" about how great a certain author or text is, which can be annoying but she is still willing to hear your opinion. Pretty easy class-but you must keep up with the reading. Watch out for the pop quizes! They are almost every class and ask specifics about the readings!
