He is the worst professor. Not only did I email him 5 different times and not one of them was answered, but he kept messing up in class and we had to correct him. He does not teach, we basically teach ourselves with the homework and the workshops. He is the absolute WORST and I would recommend dropping right away (or switching) if you get him.

Had him for 103 and 104. Mans is just not a good professor. He's a nice guy, but you basically teach yourself chemistry. Lots of online homework, test averages stay around 50-60 percent. Get a tutor to teach you the basics, so then you can follow along better. Take advantage of workshop, and if you know you have to take 104, take 103 with wingrave.

Hardest class I've ever had. Had to teach myself everything. I usually went to class, but it was usually pointless because I wouldn't understand a thing. Only did clickers 3 times the whole semester. I had to work really hard and study days in advance to do okay on the tests. He curves the final grade which helped a lot. That was the only good part

Way too hard for a general chem class and Wingrave doesn't help. Lectures are gibberish and he doesn't even know what class he is in sometimes. Clickers are random, only did them 3 times in the semester. Office hours are a hit or miss, he might be late to his hours or you just might wait and never get an answer since everyone is there.

Intelligent but an ineffective communicator. Lecture materials are outdated and wrong. The free-PDF text is worthless. Impossible to see during office hours because all of his students are there. Use the practice exams he posts but know that the answer key is always wrong. Make friends with your lab TA and pray that your lab grade will save you.

I have had the pleasure of taking Professor Wingrave's class for both Chem103 (fall) and Chem104 (spring). He has been the best teacher I could have possibly had. Although he may seem challenging at first, he is ultimately preparing his students for the rigorous courses in the future. I can proudly say that I am now ready to take on future courses.

Possibly the worst class I have taken at UD. Everyone fails his tests, yet he hasn't changed a thing about his teaching. Never got above a 50% on the tests and got a C+ in the class. Study old tests and do the sapling. Show up for random clickers. If u can take intergrated or with Compton, I would.

Most awful class I've ever taken. Expect to get 40 out of 124 on exams. Course manual book is unclear, and I have no idea how to study for his tests.

Professor Wingrave is AMAZING! Definitely the best teacher I have ever had hands down. The people that are complaining are just jealous because they wish they had 1/10 the amount of brain power as the legend and all-powerful Jimmy Wingrave. He is definitely a tough teacher, but he prepares you for the difficulty of college! Attend lecture.

He doesnt teach you he basically expects you to watch most of the lectures and test are basically your only grade with averages around 40/124 on all of them. He also says he doesnt curve bit if he didnt no one would pass his class.

Wingrave is probably one of the worst profs at UD. I had him freshman fall and spring and he teaches things that should not be taught in an introductory chem class. Study like crazy. You don't really need to go to class but he does to clickers the week of exams. Know the lecture manual and memorize everything and you'll get by.

He is very smart and knows his subject well but he teaches first year chem students like they are grad students. If you rewatch lectures and work through lecture sample problems you will do well. Memorizing everything he asks you is essential. Also go to office hours he almost always gives points back on exams . Also make sure to get clicker points

His tests are extremely challenging. He teaches you so much more information than needed for a general chemistry class, including Chemistry 2 and Organic Chemistry material, and puts the hardest trick problems on tests. You need to be very smart and work very hard to do well, which is possible. After getting an A, though, I am happy I had Wingrave.

This class has been the hardest class I have ever had. I came expecting it to be easy like high school and I got my ass handed to me by the first test. I needed this to build a decent work ethic and time management. Wingrave may be hated by a lot students, but for those who want be something in life he is a necessity. GO TO CLASS AND OFFICE HOURS.

He made me hate Chemistry. All of the things he tought made no sence and he acted like every student took AP Chem in highschool so he breezed through lectures. We even had to learn 2 lectures on our own for the final. The average grade, which he shows to the class after every exam, was a failing grade every time. He does an extremely generous curve

This class was the hardest class I've ever taken. The lectures are confusing and his tests are ridiculously hard. Each average test grade was a failing grade. If you do not have to take him don't do it. If you have to just get help, get a decent lab grade, and do at least above average on each exam and you'll end up with a B.

Don't bother attending lecture you won't know the material either way, except he does clickers exam week. His exams are also INSANELY hard. Attend all workshops, do well in lab, & do the hw; these will SAVE your grade. Plus he curves at the end. I got a 25%, 22%, and 9% on his exams and still managed to pass. Do better than me and you'll be fine.

Wingrave is a very nice man but just an awful professor. The exams are just outrageously hard, the average for the exams were; 36%,55%, and a 50%. There's a ton of Sapling HW questions and if you don't have chegg you should start early.

Definitely the hardest class I've taken. Assumes everyone has taken AP chem (I took honors) and that this class is a review. Too much expected for a 100 class. Hard to fail the class, but also hard to get an A. He's proud if the test avg is a D, like 80% of the class fails the tests. Go to workshop, his office to get points back on tests, do HW.

He's really nice and all, but if you're looking for a professor to explain actual concepts about chemistry, I would recommend taking another professor. The bright side to his class is that the current exams are EXTREMELY similar to the past ones. This fact saved my grade. Literally, just understand and study those and you should be fine.
