Comment:
Prof expects a lot of participation and fails students who miss over 3 classes, demanding homework, can be difficult to understand what she's looking for in blog posts (which are most of the course homework). Took spring 2015.

Parham is insanely awesome. It's true that her classes are work, but they're also interesting, thought-provoking, and genuinely engaging. If you're willing to put in the effort you will get a LOT out of it. Especially good for seeing the value of theory.

Prof. Parham makes you read more closely and write more rigorously than you expect. ALL of her courses (I've had more than one) read difficult books. Informed by literary theory, cultural studies, and old-fashioned close-reading of books, she's an amazing mix of old and new teaching. Oh, and damn fine! That's the truth.

Comment:
With Ferguson and Parker, the smartest and most intellectually cutting-edge of Amherst professors. Most at the College are practicing outdated stuff or just fluff (see Basler's classes), but Parham teaches the real thing. Her courses are always packed. Not afraid to give bad grades, so be aware. Just work hard and you'll be smarter than you thought

Prof. Parham is awesome, no doubt, and I probably got the most out of class when she lectured as opposed to just letting the class take the conversation wherever. I feel like the class could have been better organized, just because it felt like we spent an equal amount of time changing the syllabus and actually reading the works on the syllabus.

LMFAO at comments! Seriously, though, Prof. Parham is the real thing. Her classes are intense, the material is rigorous, and she grades like a mofo. You cannot get away with sloppy work with her. But it is worth it, because you will learn more than you ever thought you could. She seems real casual at first, but she is serious and VERY intellectual.

She can be really hard on your writing, but you'll be a better writer if you don't give up. You have to work hard. Her lectures are loose with a lot of discussion. Good discussion. And it is true - her round could definitely be ground! A real hott prof.

Smart and funny, with junk in the TRUNK!!! She also really cares about students, so you can go to her for help. Her lectures are casual, but pay attention because she's always got something to surprise you with. And she will call on you. Damn!

great, great prof. very smart and teaches interesting courses. is NOT disorganized...she expects students to contribute and push the course along. not the same as disorganized (is "unorganized" even a word?).
