Dr. Zant is the most caring & kind professor I;ve ever had. I was really sick this semester and he reached out to me to make sure I was okay and gave me ample time to make up coursework. There are only 2 written exams and 4 short quizzes, all of which are graded fairly easy. The textbook is really great & easy to read. I hope to have him again.

Don't take this man!!! He does not really seem to care for his students or anything else. I get going online with COVID is tough but it does not mean you have to be mean and rude and overall hard to work with when it comes to your students.

You dont need to go to class, but if you do you get extra credit at the end. His lectures are just him talking often about the same thing. He is super passionate about sociology, but you learn nothing on the test. Read the text book and you will do good, class attendance is optional. At the end he rounds grades significantly and is very generous.

He barely follows the book material. He sits and babbles on. Hardly ever following any course material. Its very hard to understand what he is even talking about. I have heard from other classmates they find him very confusing. If you are looking for a good professor who helps you gain knowledge of the class subject.. DO NOT TAKE CLASS WITH ZANT

I sat in the back used the time to read for myself or other classes. Read the book and study the book, don't expected to get a perfect score if you know everything from the book as some questions are based on his own reasoning. There are two essays to write as well. He's a sweet professor and will help as long as you reach out to him.

Dr. Zant is a very smart man. His passion and knowledge for the subject is incredible. People struggle in this class because he talks throughout the lecture and uses a lot of theories in his teachings. This can catch people off guard but if you listen you will be do great. Plus you get to visit 7 prisons in this class. 2 exams both essay based.

I hope this is the worst class I take here. Lectures are unorganized and hard to follow. He literally sits in the corner and rambles. Attendance is mandatory, especially for extra credit. Prepare to learn nothing in class and teach yourself the material.

He's a nice guy and that's about it. All he does is talk about things that don't even apply to sociology and when you actually pay attention, he has culturally rude remarks to say. Only take him if you want to fall asleep in class and never learn anything.

Difficult class. Entirely based on theoretical. Half the exam comes from him, the other half comes from the book. Very hard class.

I don't even know where to start on him. Nice guy, and meaningful lectures, but he shows up late to every class and doesn't use powerpoint. Doesn't have notes either.

Super boring old man that rambles forever. Class is entirely theoretical and he lets you use an outline on the two essay tests. If you read you will pass regardless of if you go to class or not because he gives you a list of what the essay questions might be for the tests. If you read and use the questions to make an outline you should be fine.

Dr. Zant's SOC100 class was the most dull class I've ever had to attend. Mr. Zant had no lecture slides and instead just talked freely from the book, because of this, the tests are difficult to say the least. If you have to take his section, use it as a study hall. Don't ditch, you get 6 points of extra credit if you go to every class.

Dr. Zant is a very nice guy and wants you to do well, but he is hard to follow. There are only 5 grades all semester plus 20 points of attendance (6 EC for perfect attendance). Every point matters in this class. I did very well on the two essays, including a perfect score, but still only got a C even with a large curve because of the hard exams.

His class is extremely boring and it is not fun to sit through. He has a very deep voice and it is hard to pay attention and half the class falls asleep. If you do happen to get him, paying attention isn't necessary, just read the book!

He's a great teacher, but his lectures consist of him sitting down the entire time and talking from multiple books. He has no powerpoints or resources to access. The tests were very long, in fact, I couldn't even finish a test without going 10 min over the limit. If you want to do good, study from the book and remember the definitions.

Mr. Zant is a nice teacher I'll say that much, but the way he teaches the material is boring. Most of the questions come from the textbooks and the way he words the questions make it difficult to understand. Exams were too long to finish in the amount of time given and tons of material to remember. Would recommend another professor.

Very interesting class because of the field trips. However, He is very confusing during lectures and contradicts himself on the information he wants us to write about on the tests. The information is very theoretical. His grading scale is crazy. He says its basically impossible to get an A. DO NOT TAKE.

I would absolutely recommend this class. It was very interesting and applicable in a surprising number of situations. You get to visit prisons for this class, which is a one-of-a-kind experience. The first half of the class was boring, but the second half was way cool! Make sure you know classicalism and positivism for the midterm and final.

Finding the important information from the book and notes is much harder than it needs to be. Tons of useless information surrounding the actual material. If you're wanting to follow the book or his notes be ready to read them several times.

Comment:
He does a bad job explaining concepts, but as long as you take note of the sections in the book that he says are important, you will do fine. Use the book as your guide and disregard his explanations in order to not be confused. The class was very dry because it was so theoretical, but had interesting points.
