Dr. Scobey is always a good choice. Lectures are carefully planned out and theyre easy to follow. I just wish he would read questions in chat during the lecture instead of waiting until the end.

He would rather argue and shame students in front of the classroom instead of answer student's questions. While assignments have grading criteria that is always stated, you will lose points for things you "should have known". The tests are asking trick questions rather than tangible things you should know. Quite rude as well.

Dr. Scobey is very interesting. A nice guy, but as a prof he would rather argue with students than help when they do not understand. A lot of his test questions are written to be deceiving rather than to test knowledge. Expects you to know things he did not really teach and expects you to basically teach yourself. Practice/study lots on your own.

This is the first computer science class Ive taken where the grades seem to reflect the actual knowledge of the class. Go to class, do the assignments, study for the tests. Enjoyed his lectures and they were very well planned.

Don't take Scobey if you're not planning to do a Computer Science degree. He teaches for people who want to program for a living, not casual hobbyists. That being said, he's one of the best CompSci profs I've had. His lectures are a bit dry, but helpful if you pay attention. He's a tough grader but the material is worth studying.

When you program code it either works or doesn't, there is no partially working program. Be prepared to put in effort if you want a good job without someone holding your hand. He prepares you for the real world, you are not in high school any more. He always has time for drop-ins during office hours, make the best of it and learn to learn from him.

I am in my 50's now and in all the courses I have done over my life, I have never had a better teacher... EVER. Mr. Scobey doesn't just show you, he teaches in a way that you teach yourself. So, you actually learn, retain and can use what you paid for in the future. Thanks to the way he teaches, I landed an amazing job, that pays well & enjoy.

It might surprise people, but he's here to teach a class and prepare you for a future in CS, not hold your hand and pass you even if you don't understand the material. He's accessible during office hours and his lectures are full of important info, though he does sometimes test on something he only mentioned once. Practice coding and you'll pass.

He is very smart in the programming sense. Other than that, he is condescending to students, and uses the lab time as extra lecture time. his classes consist of him reading code to you over the projector. you barely get class time to practice. this is a course you learn by doing, and he doenst let you do much.

Mumbles through lectures without really teaching anything and yells at students who don't perform well. 70% of our class failed the midterm, with 18 below 30% and only 3 people getting above a 59%, then proceeded to yell about how incompetent we were.

Most boring Lecture I've ever had to attend. Usually goes on about nothing and when you ask questions you have to get it out of him. He doesn't tend to give you help straight up. Worst computer science teacher I've had

Can be rather unclear in lectures but much more understandable if you ask him questions. Plenty of office hours and he encourages people to visit him outside those time slots. Remarkably dry sense of humour and I'm sorry to say that most people are afraid of him. Brilliant professor and very clear about what he wants in class. Beware sorting tests!
