Dr. Henderson will require you to work hard for your grade. Her classes are some of the hardest i've taken, but not because they are impossible. She challenges you to go beyond what you think you can do, and you will learn more than you ever imagined because of it. She is more than willing to help you, and she is just an inspiring person

She lacks clarity in her expectations for her tests. I received good grades on my essays but Cs on my exams. She had, in her mind, specific word-for-word definitions that she refused to share with the class, which ultimately led to mediocre exam grades. I was pretty upset because I put lots of work into studying and those essays.

I had the exact same experience as another poster, who wrote, "i got an A on the first paper. interestingly, once she knew the face that went with the name, my grades went down. hmmm . . ."

prof. henderson makes this an amazing class by applying the literature we read to modern day examples... she has a way of teaching you how to sympathize and feel what the writer was going through. You must be opened to changing your conventional ways of thinking!! She's my HERO!!

Dr. Henderson is a great professor. She is very passionate about black literature and black struggle. She is very hard and maintains high expectations for her students but only because she wants her students to be successful. If you have trouble with the class, go to her office hours and honestly talk to her about the class!!!! She will help!!

Her career is centered around defending, what she perceives to be, a point of view that has been muted by society. She preaches open-mindedness, but obstinately refuses to recognize non-afrocentric thought as valid. If you are incapable of somehow internalizing the life-views of an early 19th century slave, as I was, you will fare poorly.

I took her African Amer Lit class to learn more about other cultures. I'm Native American, and when she found that out she decided to basically insult my culture and imply that I have it good b/c I'm technically white to her. I'm in grad school now, no thanks to her, the work wasnt hard, but her racism was, I've never felt so hated.

You only take away from a Henderson class what you put in. Class is absolutely discussion driven. Keeps paper topics open so that students don't feel too restricted by them. Go to her office to talk about the paper BEFORE you write it. Her expectations are very high when it comes to the quality of your writing and analysis... don't procrastinate!

nah. She doesn't really no what she's talking about. She does use fancy language to cover up her lack of understanding and Eng majors love that stuff. It is hard to get an A, but class is really only difficult because expectations are so unclear. Not **** or ****, but does like to hear her own opinions mouthed back at her. I learned nothing.

Doc is amazing. If you don't want to think outside the box and have honest conversations about race/class/gender equality then don't bother taking her. I am a straight A English major and I'm the first to say that it IS possible to get an A on a paper but it is extraordinarily difficult. GO TO CLASS and don't start your papers the night before. She

Although she does know what she is talking about, she has a bad way of teaching information. If you dont write according to her opinions, she does not give you a good grade. Im a straight A Chem-major Student and i worked harder in this class for a B than my other more important classes. If you can stay clear of her courses i would suggest you do s

This professor was amazing. After reading some of the responses about her on this page I was skeptical but I have never loved a class so much. She respects the students and again I have NEVER seen her act racially bias toward anyway..for goodness sakes she is teaching about equality and respect among all races. Only for the open-minded !!

Dr. Henderson is, by far, one of the best professors I have had-she makes you think, is extremely intelligent, and expects nothing but the best. Do the reading, participate in class, and be willing to think and you're golden. And for the record, I am white and NEVER had a problem with her being racially biased or bitter-she was always fair.

I love Doc so much! I would take her class again so quick! Although it was my hardest class this semester, i definitely learned a lot from her! She gives very few assignments, but when she does, she expects the best from you! Definitely take this class if you want a challenge and want to learn!

I enjoyed her class, found it interesting, liked her and her style. I'd take her again in a heartbeat. I do think how she interacted with students in class discussion and how tough/easy your grade was really did change depending on who you were. Preferential. This did not always to me seem racially or ethnically based, however.

The most racially biased prof I've ever had. Obvious pref for ethnic students, snide comments towards whites. Only take this class if you can stand being insulted daily and have a love of longwinded pointless lectures. Long ridiculously multifaceted exam questions. Picky tough grader.
