Took Shaw for Physics 1 and 2. Any love I had for physics or chance of me majoring in physics was quickly destroyed by having to repeatedly get test scores that didn't reflect how much I studied or how well I did on the homework or even how much I understood. He's a very nice and smart man but his lectures are more physics history than anything

Honestly, I didn't really enjoy this course. His lectures were a bit boring and he reads directly off the slides so you don't really have to go to class. Though he does grade your attendance. He also isn't good with technology so it can take him a while to get it working. Be prepared to read A LOT. The tests also suck.

He doesn't actually teach. I am very good at math and science and I thought that I would pass this class with flying colors, but boy was I wrong. The tests are so hard and there are only like 8 questions, but each worth so many points. So if you mess up, you can kiss your grade goodbye. The only good this is that he curves.

He hands out a book of notes at the beginning of the semester and during his lectures he read directly from the notebook. Expect to teach this class to yourself, as he doesn't explain things hardly at all if you don't understand what's read out of the notebook. Average test grades this semester hovered between low 30's to low 40's.

This school has such unhelpful physics professors, and Shaw might be the king of unhelpfulness. Ask a question in class and he'll be condescending and not really even give you an answer. Tests are incredibly easy, at least. Just read the notes and book and you'll do better than if you listen to him. Yahoo answers has better explanations too.

He's intimidating if you've never had him before, but he is an iron giant. He wants to help and is very passionate about what he does. I loved him as a teacher, he cares a lot about his students. Definitely get to know him, he can be very personable and will listen. You'll deserve the A if you get it, but he has a huge curve for a B.

Just thought I'd give an updated review on the Astronomy class. Took it with him Fall 11 and he DID take attendance into account. Easy class as long as no one screws up the curve. But dry professor. I basically sat on facebook through all the lectures and still passed with a high B (attendance pushed me down from an A actually)

I had Shaw for Descriptive Astronomy. He's very passionate about his work, and very intelligent. He sort of has a way of making you feel dumb when asking questions, but he is never rude or mean. He's pretty easy going, and will help you with any issues you have if you reach out to him.

If you need an easy class for your physical science grade, take astronomy with Shaw. Don't bother listening to lectures, just read, read, read the book. He's awkward and a little weird but its not unbearable. He's really super smart and just doesn't get his knowledge to students. Overall, you might not love it, but you'll survive his class.

Took this in the summer, not recommended. You will be learning everything from the book and his tests are confusing. His lectures don't relate to test questions. He is willing to answer questions but even then it doesn't always make sense. If you don't know anything about Physics take it with Dr. C in the fall.

Dr. Shaw is a terrible professor. Its almost the end of the semester and he still hasn't learned our names and you have to tell him it every time you have lab. The tests are NOTHING like the homework. His lectures are confusing and have nothing to do with test material. Most of the test is calculation but he only covers concept. A weird, angry man.

Dr. Shaw is an overall nice guy. He is willing to help you when you ask, but don't expect an email back immediately. He does curve the final grade, but unfortunately it is not consistent with the previous test grades. DO YOUR HOMEWORK! It does help!

Dr. Shaw is a good professor. Any interested in showing up to class, doing the little homework required and studying at least an hour or two for each test will get an A. He actually rounds the final grade way down, but as I said, anyone who actually puts in any effort won't need any help. He was always available to help me anytime I asked.

I have never had a more confusing professor. He rambles on and on about a problem, gets to the end and finds out he's wrong from the book. Avoid him if at all possible.

This class is in a lecture hall. You do not need to attend class to get an A. I got an A and only went to class to take the tests. His test questions are strait out of the questions in the book. The class does requier a fare ammount of stduying if you're not going to attend class though.

You better get a cliff notes book and a physics for idots book to simplify physics so you can teach yourself because shaw will not make anything clear and class is pointless since you learn nothing.

Lab is a pretty easy class - you get points for doing each lab and then there are 2 tests. The tests are pretty hard but he has a curve so as long as you attend class you will never get lower than a C. Basically you can fail the tests and still get a decent grade overall.

Okay so hes not a great teacher, but the class ok. You dont even have to go to class to get a good grade. He gives you a study guide with all the answers & the test questions are word for word from the study guide. If you have good memorization skills this class will be cake. dont go to him for help
