This is not an easy A class, Pavlik will make you earn your grade. If you're having a difficult time, reach out to him- he wont give you easy answers to your questions but he will point you in the right direction. Don't skip the reading and know your current events.

Philip Pavlik is the WORST professor I've ever had, and I'm a Junior. First of all, I was in the class for almost 3 weeks without hearing ANYTHING from him whatsoever. I had to email him first to find out where the syllabus was. The tests are all essay and if you don't write what HE wants, no matter what, it's always wrong. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!

Probably the roughest class I've ever taken. If you don't agree with his viewpoints, you will not earn a good grade in this class. Also, if you think you understand concepts for the class and understand the class, more than likely, the Pavlik will make sure you are wrong and you're grade will be a lot lower than expected. Very unwilling to help

OK its the second week of class, and I'm taking this class online and I still have heard nothing from him. No emails, no moodle, no anything. Going to my adviser to drop this class ASAP. Thats pretty unprofessional.

Watch online lectures and at least try to interpret his notes and write them down, which are so disorganized. Definitely keep up with readings as they'll help you with terminology more than lectures. Mid-term and final were completely impossible to prepare for. My best advice is to try to write your essays based on what you think he'd agree with.

This professor is highly knowledgeable- Yes, but a terrible teacher. If you take notes and like to refer to your notes, he does the socratic style. So the notes he has have no structure plus don't ever expect a powerpoint or expect anything to be posted online. He grades very harshly and judgmental. He also makes pointless allusions.

Terrible class, thinks everything he says is fact. Write randomly abbreviated words on the board, no proper class outline. Rarely refers to the reading. Class makes so no sense, and he is boring!

Professor Pavlik is very knowledgeable, but is very arrogant and condescending. Don't argue with him, because no matter what he's always right (according to him). Even if the book says something else, he's always right. Also, I recommend to opt out of his quizzes. They are extremely hard and might end up hurting your grade. Always do the reading!

Overall, a very knowledgable professor. Very old school, doesn't kid around, but it also very reasonable. Read the textbook, and the News and Observer, and dont disagree with him and its easy to make a solid B. Good Luck!

This guy is a tool.Day one he came in to class saying half of you will fail, this university has too many people anyway. I took great notes and read and when it came time to study I had no idea what would be on the test. He grades harsh , and isn't open to outside opinions that differ from his own. Semester grades A+,A+,A-,A,A and D+, thanks pavlik

Pavlik isn't going to baby you through anything. He makes college what it should be. He gives people the rude wake up call that college SHOULDN'T be for everyone. If you read, and you're an A student, you will make an A. I also love how he will call out people with ignorant views. Be careful if you're guarding your GPA, but work hard, and an A is p

Professor Pavlik is a fair, yet challenging teacher. Show up to class, be on time, pay attention, take notes, and know what is going on in the world. All of these are things you should do anyways. If you can do this you can pass with a good grade (A or B). My assumption is that those who are angry just got a wake up call. Welcome to college.

I've taken multiple courses with Pavlik and he is what professors should be. He makes it clear this isn't high school anymore and actually will hold you accoutable :O. Most of the negative you see on him here is from the people in class who can't think for themselves and get hurt when they get called out. They are the ones you hate having in class.

Do not take this class unless absolutely necessary! It's almost impossible to predict what's on quizzes and tests, even after you study. Just wasn't a fun experience.

He's the man. Grades fairly. If you slightly pay attention to the world around you (because he quizes you on current events too) and the material in class, then you will do fine.

I think he's funny. He told us one time that people who can't name 3 supreme court justices are basically retarded. Then he asked if anyone knew 3 and no one did. He found it hilarious. But you have to be a responsible student and keep up with the material or youll either get embarrassed or get a bad grade. Learned a lot in his class though.

Pavlik's different. He makes the student come to him. Once you're there & put the effort into the class, you'll earn his respect. You have to stay up on the readings as you should for all classes. He's not going to lay it out in an easy linear style. Learning's all about mandering and tangents, if you can't hang then you are going to complain.
