Suzana is such an empathetic professor! She is very understanding, caring, and goes the extra mile to make personal connections. Grade is based on 4 mini essays and 4 essays, no final. Get to watch 3 films, essay prompts are complex & language can be difficult at times. Overall, great class! Suzana was such a sweetheart

Sawyer is so sweet. If you care about environmental pollution, this class will be great. Readings are dense, and there are 4 term papers, no final, and 4 reflections on movies you watch in class! Professor uses very complex ideas/language that can be hard to understand at times, but as long as you write your papers well, this class will be fine!

Class wasnt anything what was described in the course catalog, which professor acknowledged later on. Heavy readings every week, more than Ive had for even upper divs. A lot of it feels like its not connected to the topic at all. Spends too much time on simple concepts, and not enough on the hard ones.

I loved this professor. You have to actually go to class. However, if you find the informationsubject matter interesting it is a joy to attend. The 2 hour lectures can be long but Sawyer is very knowledgeable about the subject and really wants to help you understand.

Her essay prompts weren't super clear but she did a good job explaining questions and requirements seemed fair. The material about the amazon was really interesting and I learned a lot

Took comparative cultures - had nothing to do with that. She just talked about her own research about environmental issues in the Amazon (where is the comparing of cultures??) and completely missed the point of the class. Completely turned me off to anthropology. 0/10, professor didn't read syllabus about what class should be about.

The topics we learned in class were really interesting. It was sometimes hard to understand what Prof. Sawyer was talking about in class but she tries her best to help everyone understand the topics we're learning. Also, there were 3 essay exams which were pretty easy to do.

I had her last Fall. There was a lot of reading in class, and about 5 easy summaries of the readings due by the end of the year. also 2 midterm essays and a final. Overall, the class subject was very interesting and the grading was pretty fair. She does talk a lot, and for some reason her voice can get boring at times, but she's very passionate.

2 Midterms, 1 Paper, MCQ Final. Didn't read all her books, though some of the reading was interesting. Repetitive, but in a good way (just reiterate on your paper and you're good to go). Your grade is heavily dependent on your TA. Go to lecture because she explains the slides in depth (she gives you vague, 1/2 filled ppts online). Okay overall.

Verbose and repetitive. It's really difficult to stay awake in class. The films shown were fairly interesting. You can pass the class without really reading the book but you need to attend lectures because the powerpoint slides are confusing. Your grade mostly depends on your TA

Ant2 was just not that interesting. Also, Dr. Sawyer was teaching her opionion on most of the issues, which led me to question the credibility of the information. Tasks: "read" 3 books, 2 essay exams, mult. chioce final, one paper

Lectures are boring. I tried really hard not to fall asleep because Professor speaks in monotone. Powerpoint slides are repetitive. Lecture guides are not organized because sometimes the ones she put up on smartsite are different from the ones in class. For me, the concepts are difficult to understand. But the books are somewhat interesting. Overal

This class is much more like Sociology than Anthro. Professor Sawyer was incredibly repetitive in her lecture material and occasionally rude. She took six weeks to cover what could have been done in a week. The reading is somewhat interesting, and my TA was fantastic, but overall I don't recommend it. 2 essay-based midterms, 70-question MC final.

Andres was the best TA ever! he seriously saved my gpa this quarter! your entire grade is primarily based on the TA you get but overall an easy class, never read very much of the material. concepts were pretty general and a "no right or wrong answer" sort of deal.

She was okay. The readings were easy to summarize and sort of a silly way to teach Anthropology, and didn't match her lectures much. Also, she makes you by the book that she wrote. We already pay her salary, so why supplement it by buying an overly-confusing and uninteresting book, too. Wouldn't recommend taking her class. Too confusing.

she was really nice, but a little spacey. her lectures ran in circles. there was one in class written exam and the rest of your grade is three take home essay exams. the class is based on a curve. i only read about a quarter of each book and still got an a in the class. also, this class was all about toxins, not anthro.

She is the sweetest professor ever, she is very welcoming and approachable she loves when students go to office hours. The TA was great, he ended up writing a letter of rec for my current job. The tests are all written, not very hard at all, had to do a research paper. You get what you work for! I would recommend her!!

preachy and biased; class is super easy tho and can be interesting all depend on your TA, section on racism was okay but this is more sociology class-BORING; the class is like going to church, she treats us like 3 year olds, only take it if you must
