Dr. Mata-Monterio has good lectures for this course. Even though it's online, he does a good job of explaining course concepts. You will need to read the book at times though because the lectures don't always cover everything you need to know.

A funny and, to be honest, very knowledgeable prof, but EXTREMELY TERRIBLE at explaining stuff. Repeats simple things 1000 times, but skips the hard parts leaving it to you to figure out. Makes simple things even more difficult than they are. Also, a very tough grader and not approachable at all. Will never take again

Professor Mata-Montero has been one of the best prof's I have had so far. He is very knowledgable and helps translate it into terms you would understand, and is always there to help you until you are good on the concepts. Also gives bonus questions on the tests and makes the lab quizzes very relevant and pretty easy. A+++

Hard to understand what he says. He has a thick foreign accent and skips over content that should be taught with more attention. He tries to lighten the mood up with humor, some of which is funny, some of which is not so funny.

He's an okay guy and everything, but I found his assignments to be very long and tedious to be worth only one mark each. He didn't post any notes online, so I relied heavily on google and my textbook for assistance. He wouldn't do any review for tests, there are a few helpful tutorials to attend though.

He is a good prof. but the assignments, quizzes and tests were very unpredictable and hard. He also speaks in a very concise manner which is sometimes beneficial but mostly confuses students more if not listening carefully. The grading was also tough

I'm glad the notes were taken straight from the book, as going to class is very boring, but that is mostly because computer science is easier to teach yourself. If I could change one thing about him, it would be that he stop singling out random students and asking them questions.

He's passionate about what he's teaching however as a beginner in CS I found it extremely difficult to keep up with the work. Posts his notes online but I highly recommend the book instead. Graded by online assignments (I got 100 in all by using Chegg), labs, one midterm and final which were 20 MC and 2 short answers. Quick response to emails.

Manrique is one of the kindest profs I've had at MUN. I was a complete beginner to computer science but I found his lectures easy to understand. His slides are a bit cryptic but he explains them in class. Slides heavily based on the textbook. Very accessible outside of class, makes an effort to recognize everyone in his class. Would take again

Dr. Mata-Montero is a fantastic and hilarious professor, however he doesn't post his notes online. If you do a bit of digging, you can find alternative versions of the notes online from other sources, however if you can't it is absolutely necessary to go to class. The assignments, labs, and midterms are decently easy.

EXTREMELY boring class. It's difficult to understand everything that is taught in class because of his thick accent. Slides are on d2l but taking notes is hard when he changes the slides fairly quickly in the beginning. Throughout the semester it seems he thinks everyone understands it all the first time he explains it. Prepare to be frustrated.

I liked his lectures he tried his best to explain the concepts of a really boring course in my opinion. He explained the material in a good and enjoyable manner. Moreover, the assignments and tests were super easy. And I wouldn't mind taking him again next semester.

Clearly interested in what he's talking about, even though its the most basic CS course. Answers aren't always clear but is eager to help any student understand the material. Assignments are easy but are only worth 10%. Graded mostly by quizzes at end of labs and one midterm. CS1000 labs are extremely easy and you could show up for only the quiz

It's tough to rate Manrique. He's a very friendly and helpful person but I found his explanations confused things more than they helped. I loved the material but the questions he asked were loosely related at best. Overall his helpful attitude and friendly nature outweigh the confusion he sometimes causes and as a result I would recommend him.
