Comment:
Dr. Walsh knows her subject matter, but focusses too much on the minor details the novels she required us to read. Dr. Walsh's quizzes contained very specific paragraphical questions, yet her final exam contained subject matter not even covered in class. I suggest you only take Dr. Walsh if you are highly familiar with AMERICAN English.

I wouldn't recommend taking Dr. Walsh if you're pursuing an English major. I am close to graduating and I couldn't bear her lectures. She will only pick on the same people when she asks a question, and forget constructive criticism on your papers. She'll tear 'em apart but won't offer advice on how to fix them. AVOID.

It's hard to describe Dr Walsh. She's an admirable professor and shows great passion for English - particularly the American novel. What struck me as odd was how she picked out certain students in the class who had taken former classes she'd offered. With this, her quizzes asked what we could not answer-small details like the colour of a wall.

One positive is she provided links and access to texts online, so we didn't have to purchase all of them from the bookstore which was a nice break in terms of cost. Other than that, not much positive I can say about her as her expectations are ridiculously unclear. Strange grading and bad at communicating with students about it. Would avoid!

At first Donna appeared to be an eager and passionate prof but as soon as the semester really got going, lectures consisted on her discussing the novels with only a handful of students. Course material was very interesting but Donna was very focused on her own ideas and does not care for the ideas of others. Extremely hard marker.

Prof. Walsh's lectures were always very passionate and informational--it is clear that she cares about the material she is teaching. Alternatively, she does not handle occurrences of mental health issues or bereavement well. Certain situations (i.e. asking for an extension, asking for help) could've been handled with more care.

Dr. Walsh is an enthusiastic professor that tries to get the class involved. If you volunteer in class, even if you're wrong she'll correct you but not in a degrading way. She is hard on people with laptops as she doesn't want others distracted but so are other profs alike with cell phones. I think that she is a great prof though a hard marker.

She has to be the best prof that I have ever had at MUN. Her grading can be a little tough, but she will do whatever she can to help you if you show interest. She is very nice and approachable. My essay writing has improved greatly since I began taking courses with her.

She is an interesting lady. Lectures are entertaining, and she definitely knows what she's talking about. She can be a little rude, frowning upon those with computers and making them sit in the back. She is a tough grader, but is interested in helping students who ask. I almost failed the first in class assignment, and got an A on the term paper.

Donna was extremely helpful and if you go to see her she will answer any questions you have! She genuinely wants everyone to do well. By far my favourite lecturer in all of my degree tells you everything you need to know in order to write good papers so attendance is a must! Overall, a definite recommendation for a 4000 level course!

I found her to be very rude, unapproachable, and an unfair marker. Wether I threw together a garbage in-class essay that I was unprepared for or spent days working on a well-written paper, I got the same grade every time.

I love English and some of the novels she picked were fantastic, bu some were horrible. Her quizzes are absolutely impossible! She asks the most random facts, but as a prof she's not completely horrible. Essay grading is fair, but the quizzes were the worst.

I'm a little late in posting my opinion on Donna Walsh, but am going to none the less. I honestly liked her. She assigned some pretty damn good novels.. Great Gatsby, Catch 22, The Things They Carried. Hell, some of my favorite American novels of all time. Any who, she has an evil way about her on the surface but is actually one of the coolest prof

Goes off topic in class frequently. Very vague expectations when it comes to exams and assignments. Seems to pick favorites in class. Comments left on work were pretty much illegible. The mark I had on my first exam has stuck ever since, despite my efforts to improve. She's enthusiastic about the material but I would not recommend her to anyone.

This professor has reignited my love for reading literature. I was completely turned off it from other courses until I took hers. Her knowledge of the subject matter is wide and nuanced, and she loves to see class discussions-- too bad that half the time nobody read the books and so couldn't contribute.

I actually really enjoyed Prof Walsh's classes and thought she was a great instructor. The class I had was small, but it also wasn't all English majors, and I never felt that she was condescending. In fact, the class was fairly relaxed and she helped make it entertaining; I can only recommend it!

Unquestionably the worst professor I have had in all of my years at MUN. She is condescending, rude, incompetent, and surprisingly quite unintelligent. Of all those attributes, the rudeness is perhaps the most obvious. Now there are some amazing profs at MUN -- Gordon Jones, Shane O'Dea, R.K.L. Panjabi. But Walsh is one of the absolute worst.
