Comment:
Profesor Jacobs is funny, but at points goes too far with jokes(become insulting/disturbing). He does not use powerpoints, and lectures are mostly examples and definitions/names. Assignments are clearly outlined but mark very heavily if something is not followed. Minor Assignment 15%, Major Assignment 35%, and Final 50%.

I scheduled my electives around Dr. Jacobs' course offerings because I enjoyed his teaching style so much. He is a brilliant teacher and communicator. The way he installs information is unparalleled my most. This Prof delivers content in a rich and entertaining way & invites you to explore learning and thinking for yourself. Show up & get engaged!

Not a good prof. His lectures are decent, taking notes isn't like other classes. The first assignment is to write a recipe you like and why, how can anyone could possibly get a bad mark? Final exam has really badly worded questions and answers, will throw you off completely. Easier to contact aliens via email, also doesn't post grades online.

He isn't as bad as people say. The 2 assignments were marked fairly (not hard/ not easy). It is important to go to every class to get notes because he doesn't post it & exam is based on notes. Exam was not hard at all & if you go over your notes a few times you should be good (many answers were obvious in the M/C). 2 papers (15%, 35%) & exam (50%)

He was very friendly and funny. Kept the class engaged. Only problem was that the classes were 100% lecture based, no text books or reading which makes it DIFFICULT to study for the exam. Overall, interesting course.

Had him for GEO509. Course consisted of mini-assignment, major-assignment (w/ bonus marks), and final exam (no midterm). You HAVE to attend class and take your own notes as he does not post powerpoints. However, I found his class very interesting and he has a great sense of humour. If you attended class and took notes, the final will be SUPER EASY!

Interesting class, very fact oriented, and delivered in titbit style. Loved class, which is good because you have attend or you'll fail. Take notes people, the mini assignment is an almost guaranteed 100%, the major assignment is graded fairly (in my case generously), and the final is fairly easy. Excellent course but requires your attention.

Overall, Dr. Jacobs was a very entertaining lecturer and I found the class really enjoyable. However, if you're taking this class b/c you've heard it's a bird course, think again. There aren't any readings and the first assignment is easy but the paper requires A LOT of work. The multiple choice final is really tough and You MUST attend lecture.

Overall the prof is nice and easy going. The course consists on a quiz, in which you answer 5 short answers. A major paper which is marked fair. And an exam, which when written seems easy but the results don't match. Marks for the class were low.

He is very easy going. The course was composed of a quizpaperexam. The quiz and paper were both fair. The exam was easy. The course has no textbook and the course material is based off his lecture.

Super funny, full of stories, can sometimes go on tangents but if you care about food at all this is a great class. He's not the most available in lectures because he has like... 600 students a time, but he'll make time in office hours.

Keeps class interesting, TAs marking assignments usually gives everyone decent marks. No midterm and the easiest final, barely studied and makes his multiple choice questions tell you the correct answer, also no textbook

One of the best prof, I had for any geography course. Yes he wants you attend his classes, that is the only way you will do well on the exam. I found the exam to be jokes. Out of the 100 Q i would say 35% of them were confusing. But the rest were pretty easy. Majority of the students finished the exam in an hr. MUST TAKE. Easy B if you attend lec

I really enjoyed this course. And for some it may seem like it was hard, but coming from all my Civil Eng classes it wasn't that bad. He is a pleasant and very well cultured man with lots of interesting stories/wisdom. It was my favourite elective and if you put decent effort in and take notes you will get an A.

Do NOT take this course! You will regret it! First assignment is super easy, the essay (on a plant) 4000 words was a pain to wright. The final is all multiple choice and if u did not attend every single lecture and take endless notes , then you will screw yourself over.

the prof definitely makes the class interesting, make sure you make remember dates or people he mentions they will be on the final, first assignment is easy but second assignment requires a lot of work and he marks very hard, make sure you go to every class and your notes must be very detailed

Professor makes the class interesting, however the effort you have to put into this elective is incomparable to the usefulness of it. Extremely hard marker, it may seem like an easy A but it's not. First assignment is easy, the rest is extremely difficult to do well on. There's not textbook so go to every class. If you can avoid this course.

Amazing prof! Not the easiest marker but not hard either. Is willing to answer any question you have until you understand it. 1st paper is EASY, 2nd is harder and will take some time, exam is m/c. Great prof for lecturing and makes the subject enjoyable. Attendance and note taking is required for a decent grade. I'd take him again.
