Comment:
Mark certainly knows his math and is a very smart individual. However, his personality makes the course a drag. During the 2020 election, he talked about nothing but the election for weeks on end. Rude responses to student questions. Awkward teaching style (you will NEED the on-campus tutors).

Mark is very laid back, can be a little difficult to follow because once he has established a topic, he will assume that you remember it. It's possible to do well, but you need to attend and pay attention in class, work to actually answer the practice problem/test prep handouts, and stay on top of online homework. Put his notes into your own words.

Professor McClure is not a person I would recommend to anyone to take a math class with. His teaching style is not the best and he usually does the easy problems in class and on the study guide and gives the hardest problems on the test. He is really nice, funny, and has good intentions but I would not take him again.

Mark is a very smart man, however, he often comes off as if he doesn't care, especially in his Calc 2 class. He would definitely rather be teaching only his upper-level classes. His tests are really hard. Part of his "test philosophy" is to include things that are "new" to us which is sometimes hard when you aren't prepared for it.

If you're good at math, it's likely you'll do fine. However, this course has no book, and no online homework, two essential things I need to help teach myself. Minimal resources -- either understand it in class, or you're doomed to struggle. I barely passed, but could have done better with the resources to teach myself.

Professor Mcclure is probably one of the smartest people in the math department. He is a decently good professor but he comes off like he doesn't care. The subject itself is somewhat boring but he made it better. I would definitely recommend!

Mark is very talented. Study and you will learn and do well. Gives take home tests. Mark carries personal issues to class. Beware if you take an independent UGR w him; he can become closed-off quickly and not engage with you. Does not like answering questions he thinks aren't worth it. Has been rude to students in public. Few office hours.

Mark McClure is a brilliant dude and really seems to enjoy teaching mathematics, but is rude and harsh at times. If he is annoyed, he will let you know in front of the entire class. He uses a PDF as the book, but I recommend buying the book for more clarity. He doesn't finish all lectures, uses mean sarcasm, and doesn't like to be wrong.

Mark is a great professor. The quizzes and tests are like the review sheets and in class problem sheets. He never puts anything on the test that wasn't mentioned in class. He is very clear with his instruction and I definitely recommend.

Has a dry sense of humor that you have to get use to but is helpful when you need his help. Assigns problems in the book but they are not mandatory. The online WebWork is mandatory but it is farly short and easy to complete. Gives practice exams before each exam. so far im making a b- and i havent put much effort into studying besides homework

Mark is AWESOME. Hands down, one of my favorite professors at UNCA. He's fun, loves math, really loves his job and working with students. He's laid back, but that doesn't mean he's easy; he expects you to work but he's more than willing to help you. Real I might have been my favorite math class ever, and Real II was equally awesome.

Sarcastic fun teacher. Teaches math from a theoretical view. Doesn't grade homework. Tries to teach in such a way that you come to the conclusion yourself instead of him just telling you things.

Mark is awesome! He's tough, but he's willing to help you out. I've taken three classes from him. When I first took one of his classes I wasn't his biggest fan but now that I'm in one of his higher level math classes my opinion has totally changed! He really cares about his students and so far has been super helpful. Mark rocks!

Mark is great. Calculus II is my favorite class at UNC Asheville so far because of him. He's a really chill guy but you can tell he secretly takes his math seriously. He skips trivial stuff and teaches what you need to know excellently. I've never learned a subject so well from a teacher.

Dr. McClure is a great professor! You don't have to be "good at math" to do well. You only have to be willing to pay attention in class, do the homework, and ask for help when you need it. As long as you keep up with the assignments and don't take his comments too seriously, you'll have a great time.

Comment:
There is absolutely no merit in the comments below (Math191=Calc1=>Cocky Freshmen). I've had four classes with McClure and he has never been rude to any student. Practically all of his HW is optional and attendance is not mandatory. He throws in the most generous grading curves, so there is absolutely no explanation for obtain a grade below a B.
