One of my favorite classes ever. Professor Groeninger treated us as actual adults. Respecting us and our time. We had fun group projects where we would put ourselves in historical moments, almost acting out what could've happened in 1876. With clear goals in mind, we had the freedom to choose the actions we waned to do.

I LOVED how he ran things. Each week you have one or two readings, a half an hour video (sometimes two, depending on the unit) and then a discussion board. The only difficult part was trying to not repeat things already mentioned in the discussions, so my best advice is to answer the questions as soon as they open

Online class amidst COVID-19. 1-2 10 question multiple-choice video quiz(zes), 1 primary source reading, and 1 discussion board (3-4 posts) for each topic area. 14 topic areas total, 2 per week in the 8-week session. Easily accessible via email and office hours. The material was difficult at times, but nothing overly hard or impossible. Good class

Amazing teacher by far. I was kinda scared to take a 200s history course being a freshman but he makes it a breeze. There is a lot of reading involved but you get credit because he does short, multiple-choice quizzes every class. You can use notes on them as well. No final, instead you do a project. Essay exams w notes. Also very funny.

He's Amazing! He understands that you are a student at CLC with dreams and is always there to help. I was in his class and he would always start class with a smile and a joke. He gets you excited to be in his class. Lots of readings but should not be a problem if you are actually trying. Best professor I've had hereand will always recommend him.

Professor Groeninger is a great professor. You'll do a lot of primary source reading, and you'll listen to background lectures to get a wider context. Quizzes are simple as long as you put in the effort and read the documents, and tests are easy (still, as long as you read). It's an easy A if you put in the effort, and you get an amazing professor.

Hes very nice and FUNNY as heck! I would recommend him to anyone who likes HST. Wish I could take another class with him.

If you are just starting college I strongly advise you not to take any courses specifically HST 222 with David. The readings are heavy and there are always pop quizzes the day after. However these pop quizzes are on the least memorable parts of the reading. He is extremely hard to reach no matter how hard you try.

This class was by far one of the most difficult classes I have taken. Not only is the curriculum difficult, but the way it is taught/set up makes it much more difficult. Aside from that, it is very difficult to reach him whether it be during his office hours, calling him, or emailing him. The grading criteria is a bit difficult to understand also.

This professor was great and really interested in history. This class just had a TON of reading. He does get you excited about the topics. for this class, there were 10 point quizzes for each class and was just a random question each time. He made you work for a good grade. Would take him again though, good guy.

David teaches a history of Chicago course that I took because it sounded interesting. He gives wonderful lectures and will go out of his way if you participate! This class is simple to succeed in if you do the textbook readings and take notes during the lectures. For a history transfer credit, this class was perfect.

I took his class online so I can't speak for any in-class stuff. Our online class was amazing. Every week, you have to watch a 30 minute video and take a 10 question quiz on it. Then you have to take a 1 question written quiz on a primary document in the book or provided by the prof. Then post in a class discussion 4 times. No exams.

I took a summer class with him and it was great. There were so many opportunities to get extra credit and as long as you pay attention in class and do the readings, the quizzes and tests aren't that hard. I literally didn't write the essay which was worth 14% of my grade and still got an A off all the extra credit I got.

Heavy reading and you have about 3 days to get it done so DO NOT take any other classes with this one unless you dont have a job. We had to read 16-50 pages and watch an hours worth of videos then take a test on each, a quiz on the reading, and write 1000-1400 words total between 4 discussion responses. As a person with ADD this was impossible.

Will never take an online class with Groeninger again. Very slow responding to emails, and feedback is minimal. Took an online class so I could pace myself and I usually work ahead, but you can't do that with him. He has unrealistic time frames for getting work done and ridiculously short amount of time for the online tests.

He's a good professor and he does know what he is talking about. He connects the reading/ videos from homework to the inclass lectures. Expect to read and a quiz the next class, one paper, and 3 tests with easy questions. oh and he lets you use notes on all quizzes and essay test questions

Great Professor. One of my favorite teachers at CLC thus far. He is very knowledgable about subject. He is funny and makes his lectures interesting. Daily class quizzes-easy, one paper-easy, essay tests-easy. He is always available if you need help before tests. I love him and would take him again. You won't regret taking him.
