Comment:
I was a little intimidated by MATH 239 going into the course (I heard lots of horror stories :P) but Schellenberg did a fantastic job lecturing. He followed the course notes closely (which I recommend you study thoroughly... hint, hint). Many of his questions on assignments/exams are based on course note questions (but they can still be tricky!)

Second class I've had with him, & I loved him even more the second time. Kind, modest, unintentionally funny man. Sometimes his assignments and/or midterms are too hard, but he always makes up crazy bell curves to account for it. Teaches the class with clarity and keeps you interested with that wacky voice.

Make sure you take it with him. Very easy, very helpful and ..... JUST perfect for a course like MATH 239. He follows the course notes very closely but do note..... IT DOES NOT MEAN that you don't go to his class. Just make sure you go to all his classes and you should do well. I mean WELL.

He's a smart guy who knows what he's doing, but has trouble communicating it to the rest of the class. Nice guy. Boring material. Nuff said.

Schellingberg is a great guy in person, and very helpful. But he is NOT good as a prof at all. He faces the dilemma of knowing too much about combinatorics, so much that he just cannot speak at the level of a student when he is teaching in class. And he goes way too fast. 239 would have been a lot easier if he wasnt teaching it.

Droning voice that is sometimes hard to concentrate on. But I really like the fact he does review and teachs slowly. 239 is a pretty new set of concepts (to me at least.) The slow but steady pace is a definite plus.

I like the fact that he goes by the textbook. Who ACTUALLY reads the textbook instead of going to class? He makes a few mistakes("blunders")in class, but he never refers to his notes. Besides that, he teaches in a clear and slow manner, and is very helpful in and outside of class. SUCH a nice man.

I thought he was overrated. Everything he did in class was exactly in the text. His notes are identical to those from the text. I didn't think he was too helpful. Though, I did like the fact that he'd spend the first 5 mins reviewing the material covered from the previous class.

Schelley's sooooo nice. But his notes are a carbon copy of the text, no need to attend class. He is overrated because he is so boring, but a genuinely nice man.

Sturdy voice that can make you jump back to reality when the content gets dry. Very knowledgeable, rarely consults lecture notes. Occasionally has difficulty bringing content down to the students' level.

What he does in lectures is simply pasting the course notes on the blackborad with no more detailed explainations. So tell me what is the point of going to his lectures anyway? Beside he is boring as HELL!!!!

Easily one of my top 5 profs at UW. Even held a Final Review session on Easter Monday (Holiday) to help his students.
