Comment:
His lectures are often interesting and I enjoyed the material, but the tests are straight out of the textbook and don't follow the lectures. He enjoys picking on students in his lectures but gets angry when no one shows up. He lied (multiple times) about the final exam. He claimed it would not be cumulative but included early topics anyways.

Comment:
The actual topic of geology was fine (boring at times) and the TA's were awesome, but Dr. Lageson is a less than desirable professor. Not only does he pick on students during lectures, it seems like he does his best to make it hard for students to makeup lab sections when your lab falls on a holiday. He also cannot take constructive criticism.

He would have been a great professor a few years ago, but his tests are unreasonably difficult and none of the exams are based off of lecture. He uses a test bank from the textbook and goes over very little of the material covered in the test bank questions. Prepare to teach yourself the material.

Dr. Lageson is a great guy. I took ERTH201 from him (honors college earth system science) and he did a great job. The class was very disorganized but Lageson knows what he's talking about. This was not an easy class. Read your stuff, do your work and you will be fine.

great job with field courses, only requires average fitness unlike other respondents claim. I truely appreciate the need to access the examples of structures first hand and this requires a bit of work. he is passionate about his work.

Very good during lecture, but not a very nice person. Gives a reasonable amount of homework and but is not very nice or approachable to students in his department... including his own grad students. Picks out kids during lecture and hassles them for the entire semester. I never had a problem with him personally, but I really didn?t like how he trea

This professor is quirky yet intelligient, demanding, and really cares whether students learn the material. If you show motivation, he will not let you fail. I know. What else could you ask for in an educator? Before taking this class I thought Geology sucked and was considering changing my major. Structure rules!

Excellent topics to learn...interesting subject matter. However, the field trips are were completely ridiculous! The guys expects everyone to be an expert climber and hiker...the guy needs to get a clue, because not everyone has the same capabilities as he does and does not have the familarity and experience of the terrain like he is used to.

Very interesting lecturer, extremely helpful in discussions (as long as you concur with his views - then you are ok in his book...he's impatient and non-sympathetic to others abilities (until someone gets seriously hurt in the field)...he expects everyone to be a "mountain goat" like him, and keep up to his pace.

Comment:
I hear he's easy in the intro courses, but he's awful in courses designed strictly for earth science majors. He likes to single people out in class and say and do anything possible to humilate them. Also, his Geol 315 labs require anywhere from 20 to 40 hours per week to do well.
