Comment:
One of the worst teachers in my life, and I've had many teachers. He just didn't show up to many classes. When he was there, he rarely explained anything properly. One of my classmates threatened to sue the department because of him. He made a lot of assumptions about technical matters instead of asking what students knew. Very unavailable.

I can't believe some of what I'm reading. The rates are so inconsistent with my experience. He was one of the better teachers! He was highly engaged with students' work and unparalleled in working with their process to help them do great work. He stands out as one of my favs.

If life was a mess after Rye, these main cause. Taught supposedly technical course...but never really taught anything. Was one of main in crop that got teaching jobs in Photo/Image Arts in the 70's because of who they knew. These people were incoherent and couldn't teach if life depended on it. Nice person, Couldn't teach, and no checks form school

Thank god he is finally gone, we learned absolutely nothing in his class other than what we figured out for ourselves. I'm sure he was good once, but I guess he was just waiting out his retirement?

While I believe he genuinely knows what he's doing, he cannot for the life of him tell you what he's doing, or how to do it. He'll spend hours with you to help you solve problems, and is an easy marker, so you will pass the course if you just try a little. But the class will frustrate you to no end.

QUIRKY is good! Emil has spent literally hours with me to make sure that I am in control of the process, rather than the other way around! Most other teachers love to mystify. Emil hates mistification and has no tolerance for it.No wonder pseudo-geeks hate him.

He's a genuinely nice guy, friendly, tries to throw in some humour. I'm not sure why people say he's disorganized and has no plan, he has PPT outlines and notes for each of our classes. The only thing is, he seems to know what he's doing, but doesn't know how to teach it. He'll spend lots of time trying to help you, but good luck understanding!

Most disorganized professor ever! Or tied. Technology is too important for new media to have a person teaching who doesn't know how to make things work (because i got stuck!). Enthusiasm can only take a person so far... Like him as a person, hate him as a "teacher."

Doesn't teach, unprofessional, and doesn't have the technical knowledge to go along with his rants. I have had him for 2 years and haven't learned a thing.

I disagree with the last two. While Emil is VERY impatient and moody with slackers, he was VERY helpful with my projects.

Emil spent hours helping me outside the class and in. He also helped me with projects that were not for his class. If he sees that you are working hard, he will be there for you. No respect for slackers, though. Needs improvement there,

I hate this class. I consider it a complete waste of my time and money. I must say that Emil is by far the worst instructor I have encountered since attending Ryerson University. Hopefully his class will be altered or cancelled by next semester.
