Steve is a caring professor that truly loves his profession and because of that, he demands that the students are focused on the materials and learn what is being taught. His tests at times are demanding, but if you pay attention in class and participate, I found them rather fundamental.

Absolutely terrible. Completely called me stupid. Did not like his class at all. Has no business teaching teachers how to teach when he doesn't do well himself.

This professor is amazing. He really cares about his students and the classes are jam packed and quite interesting. I wish Dr.Oates taught more classes, because I would be really excited to take them. I definitely recommend this professor!!

Phenomenal teacher! Honestly, he's the best professor I've had the privilege to take a class with yet in my college career. You really get a sense of how you want to teach through his classes. It's all discussion based so if you talk in class and do the work, you'll do fine.

Steve teaches in a way that requires the learner to discover the information on their own. Because of this, I felt that I was able to grasp and own the information for myself. Also I felt like he valued the opinions of the students and he let us collaborate our ideas. Its the best class I've had and it opened my eyes to new ideas about education

201 is a lot easier than 301. 301 is very demanding, there is tons of reading. lots of work for only a 2 credit class! But Oates is such a good prof. He really makes the class interesting and the class is all discussion, hardly any lectures.

Steve is an awesome prof. He can start a good discussion and he lets students lead them as much as possible. Learned a lot about philosophy of education and took a lot out of it. If you are majoring in education, take him. If you feel the need to simply walk in and receive an 'A' then you better get with someone else.

I thought Prof. Oates was great. He is energetic and very adept at steering a class discussion without dominating it. Basically a smart, approachable guy. Not an easy grader, but please don't go into Education if you expect your grades to be handed to you - will you hand grades to all YOUR students? Do the work, participate, and you'll be fine.

Steve's the man! I love this class. There's a lot of writing involved and the papers can get lengthy, but this class was fun as well as interesting. He's a really great prof. You will learn lots from him.

I didn't really enjoy this class at all. I don't feel like I learned anything about Education, at all. All people did was give their opinions on what they thought of this, that, and anything else imaginable. He's not an easy grader by all means. He picks apart papers like it's an english class.

Easy. If you participate at all, which is easy because everyone does in his class, you will be alright with him. There are only a few assignments, but the journals are easy to get behind on if you slack.

Oates is a good prof. His glaring fault: He is an extreme liberal. His liberal bias is infused in everything he says. The person who wrote he has no political bias is living in a fantasy land. On the bright side, Oates is a caring guy and very intersting. I just wish he would be honest with his students and admit he is to the left of Ted Kennedy.

Professor Oates does NOT care about your political affiliations - those raters were obviously a little over-sensitive. Oates is one of the best teachers I've ever had - I've had a lot. Class was actually FUN to go to because of the interesting discussions that took place. I would highly recommend him to anyone in education!!
