Comment:
What a ridiculous class. It is unnecessarily impossible because Linda doesn't teach anything, and doesn't have a textbook for the class. The powepoints that she would rush through do not have the answers for the labs, so nobody knows how to complete them. You're forced to try to look up the answers online. Ask for help and she will insult you.

There are countless negative reviews on here reporting the exact same thing for a reason, DO LISTEN to them. Linda acts extremely annoyed when asked to do any work and will attack students who do so. She rushes through her PowerPoints in about 5 minutes and that is all she is willing to do. Rude & insecure person, please avoid if possible.

Linda is one of the best professors I've ever had at this school. She is by FAR the most caring. Her classes have a heavy workload, but the projects are all interesting and she is incredibly clear about what she expects from each assignment. Do NOT listen to the bad reviews on here. I have no idea who wouldn't love this professor.

I think the geology department needs to find a replacement teacher. Linda does not teach or even provide the material needed for the labs, and then insults students as if theyre dumb when they question how theyre supposed to complete the labs. You have to google the answers or ask the handful or geology students. She does not want to work.

Linda was super enthusiastic with this class. It also covered parts of basic training to be a Master Naturalist and she went above and beyond to give us the opportunity to get that certification. She was fun and caring.

Linda Morse is a wonderful human being. She grades harshly (so maybe dont take 160 lab first semester freshman year) but Linda will be in your corner supporting you the whole way through and beyond. She is an angel and a gem and a less than stellar grade in her class is more than worth the academic relationship you have the opportunity to build.

This class is a lot of work for a one-credit course, but it's more tedious than difficult. Expect to spend the full 3 hours in class doing the labs. But besides studying, there really is no homework, Linda is really sweet and helpful, and her tests (besides maybe the final) are pretty straight forward. People exaggerate how difficult this class is.

DON'T TAKE IT if you don't want to spend a ton of time preparing for the exams for a one-credit lab and end up with a B/B-.

does require substantial work. 3-hour lab + at least 3 hours each week for homework + substantial efforts to prepare for the exams. Some foundations of geological knowledge are required as most stuff in the lab, homework, and exams are never explained and students don't know how to work on them. Treat this lab as a 3 credit class in order to pass i

way too much for a one-credit class. her instructions are very vague and we are always guessing what is going on. the material should not be THAT difficult if she explains it clearly and in an organized way. but she does not. everything is scattered everywhere and you just have to guess.

If I hadn't taken a geology course before taking the lab, I probably would have failed. Her lectures are rushed and unhelpful and then you spend two hours pretty much guessing at the answers to the lab (since they weren't in the lecture). Exams are hard and not usually what I thought they would be. Way too much work for 1 credit.

I thought her lab was fun. Sometimes I'd wonder why we were taking so long on a certain topic, and occasionally got flustered when she wouldn't explain what a rock was well. The tests in the class had an outward appearance of being easy, but Linda grades pretty harshly and is looking for very specific answers. Nonetheless, I'd recommend this class.

Linda is an amazing prof and gives an excellent intro to geology for the students that take her lab. The people on here who rag on her are doing so because they likely only took the course because they needed it to graduate and put in no effort. She is always available and responds to emails promptly to answer any questions.

I completely agree with the previous negative reviews the geology department really needs to investigate because there are blatant issues with Morse. Unfortunately she is the only one teaching the class which is why she is able to get away with the inappropriate behavior. Not a coincidence so many people are repeatedly reporting the same experience

Absolutely terrible. Rushes through lectures in a pathetically ineffective manner to minimize her workload, then gives you a 2+ hour in-class lab filled with questions that aren't covered anywhere, then you are tested on these unavailing labs with exams that are designed for you to fail. Rude, condescending, bitter. Sad state of affairs for W&M.

She's a great person and she'll really do her best to help you outside of class, but don't take 101 thinking its rocks for jocks. You're graded mostly on three exams and three problem sets which aren't super easy. If you're just looking to fulfill NQR, look elsewhere.

Y'all are so hard on Morse! Yes, her tests are hard, the grading is picky and you have to be in class to earn participation points, but she makes an effort to be engaging in lecture and she's great to talk to at office hours, esp if you have an issue with the graders' work. The labs rarely take over an hour. I'd recommend (as a non major)

Completely useless. Heard she's great if you're a major and you go on her field trips. But she doesn't offer any help (her office hours leave you more confused). Take astronomy if you're grandfathered into the old GERs.

I'm not one to complain about a professor just because their class is "hard," but this lady is crazy. Condescending towards questions, unhelpful even when you attend her office hours. The department seriously needs to get another professor to teach this courselab.
