Dr. Mastrilli will open your naive eyes. He is very knowledgeable in his field and shares applicable situational stories that could possibly happen in your future classroom. If any of your prior classes haven't been a wake up call... get ready for a reality check.

It was a very dense course. Mastrilli tried his best to keep it lively. Our class was required to read two books. We also had 2 papers, 1 quiz, and 1 huge packet that essentially was our final. He seemed to care more about how the paper was set up and not what we said... Overall it was an okay class I guess.

Terrible professor. One of those teachers that you just want to ask....how are you still a professor? The class is very easy though.

The guy knows a lot and if you pay attention you can take a lot out of the class. My grade was disappointing considering I never missed class and participated regularly. We had one huge paper that was almost our entire grade due last day of class. Cares more about how the paper is set up (margins, spaces) than what you write.

Mastrilli keeps things real. Hilarious guy and very sarcastic. Really knows what he is doing. The teaching episodes are great because he usually laughs with you in the back of the class. Mustache forever.

I was worried about this class at first, but it really wasnt bad. I liked this professor and the class is okay. There was one test and if you study you can get an A. There were a few opinion papers and extra credit opportunities. Also there is one big final paper but he makes it easy!

What a great teacher. Looks at society from a masses point of view and how education is going down the tubes while we spend money on frivolous projects. Papers are opinion papers so are easy to write. We got to opt out of the final if you were satisfied with your philosophy of education paper (5 pgs) grade. 1 Timed writing, no other tests.

I Def. learned a lot in his class. The coursework isn't really that demanding and he is an easy grader. You'll have to work for an A but it's not hard if your willing to do the work. I recommend him to everyone. Probably one of the best Professors at WCU.

Has some good, applicable situational stories that keeps the class laughing. Get ready for a reality check into teaching...he definetly is blunt; he knows the difference between good pedagogy and bad pedagogy and is excellent at explaining both to students. very engaging class!

Mastrilli is not a bad guy. I had him for Democracy and Ed. and i learned a lot from him because he is interesting to listen to. Don't be fooled though, he makes everything seem so bad. In the beginning, he made it seem like his class was going to be soooo hard, but it wasn't. He exaggerates a lot. Other then that, a good teacher.

I liked this class because I learned a lot about the history of education. The papers were reasonable, but the exam was not. He let us drop the last exam, so that was a big positive. Don't slack on the final paper though.

Dr. Mastrilli is a unique professor; I enjoyed his highly interactive class and enthusiasm. He doesn't offer a lot of grading opportunities (papers, exams, etc.), but the ones that he does assign require you to apply the information you have learned, not b.s. your way through it. I would definitely encourage serious education majors to take him.

There's only 3 grades in this class which is kind of stupid, especially b/c one is a group essay and 1/3 of your grade is dependent upon 3 other people. The other is a test and a final paper. Class was interesting but he's a tough grader. I wouldn't recommend him.
