Comment:
Rob gives incredibly interesting lectures and leads discussions that can be meandering and tangential and yet still productive. He is prone to witty comments and incisive questions that create an atmosphere of scholarship despite (or perhaps because of) his fairly casual teaching style.

If you don't want to work too much, you can do that and pass the class. But if you want to actually learn, you can meet with him outside of class, research more, and work harder and he will help you improve so much more than you would have otherwise.

Wonderful, brilliant, one of the best professors at Knox. His specialty is British lit though he knowledge on all subjects is vast. A great choice for any class, project, or independent study. I highly recommend his classes.

Comment:
Yes, really smart. And he leads really exciting discussions. But I think he takes his role as teacher a little too seriously sometimes, and he has no problem putting students down. I'm not saying that people don't need reality checks, but most of my good feedback from him came with insults (either about my stuff or the rest of the class's) too.

I'll join the chorus and say that he's terribly brilliant. I think I'm a much better student because of him. He is intimidating, but can be quite nice and understanding at times. And to top it all off he has an amazing sense of humor and a Scottish accent, which makes taking a class with him a great experience.

Extremely clever and offers a lot of helpful insight on the readings he assigns. However, he expects a lot out of students, and sometimes his expectations are intimidating.

This has to be repeated: "Terrifyingly brilliant". He makes you think in ways you never knew existed and more frighningly, ways you didn't know you were capable of.
