Prof Stephen is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She truly makes the effort to get to know her students and cultivates a great learning community. She is encouraging to all students but also manages to keep everyone on their toes. You will see progress in your work as a critical thinker and writer in her class. Wonderful experience.

Had Dr. Stephen for Theory & Methods. She is truly one of the smartest teachers I have ever had. Lectures a decent amount and sometimes wanders from the immediate topic, but has productive class conversations. Lots of free writing, but only one actual paper. This class led me to deciding upon an English major.

Of the decent amount of "must have" teachers at Muhlenberg, Dr. Stephen stands tall as one of those. She is engaging, helpful, and extremely intelligent. She allows you to think critically as an individual. She is extremely understandable. The work in class is fairly easy, but that's due to her awesome teaching style. Truly a liberal arts professor

This was a poetry class. She is extremely interesting and she tries not to lecture too much in class. But, she is not always clear with what she wants. Also, there are not many grades for the class so you are not sure how you are doing until you get your grade at the end of the semester.

As a non-English major, I was really worried about this class but it turned out to not be so bad. Stephen is great and I highly recommend taking a class with her. She offers a ton of office hours and is very helpful.

Dr. Stephen is a great teacher--one of the best at Muhlenberg. She's very good at teaching non-English majors, which not a lot of English professors can do. She's also a warm, caring person who has her students' interests at heart. Take her Milton class--it's enlightening.

Jill is probably the sweetest, most concerned and down-to-earth, reliable professor I have ever encountered. And she's also a genius...just a brilliant woman who knows how to handle every student and every level of literary background. She often assigns a lot of reading, but she is very understanding about paper extensions. PLEASE TAKE HER CLASS!

I think I took everything with Dr. Stephen that I could have taken with her except Shakespeare including my freshmen and senior seminars. She's expects good work but is forgiving in her grading. Her lessons are thought provoking and leave you wanting more.

Haven't finished my first class with her, but I liked it enough to know I want to continue studying with her. Very compassionate and reasonably clear...reading is very tough though. Gives extremely reasonable amounts of time for papers. Everyone should take a class with her!
