I took Dr. Russell's History to 1865 Course several years ago. I now have 100 + college hours. Dr. Russell's class is in the top 3 favorites of all the courses that have ever taken. Attend class, study, and enjoy a "real college experience". The things I never knew I didn't know! Take his course.

Best history professor I have taken so far. Yes you have to study and write pretty good essays and IDs but ITS FRIKEN COLLEGE! What do you expect. Great outlines, great in depth analysis, and is not afraid to tell you the "dark side" of U.S. history or the heroic parts either. Learned so much taking his class and recommend him for any history lover

Lord Russel knows the material better than any other history professor i have had. His lectures are kind of boring, but he throws in some interesting, and usually funny, stories to spice things up. tests are difficult. Don't wait til the last minute to study, doesn't work. Not easy but not hard either.

I found him to be entertaining and fun to listen to. He really cares about his students and tries to accommodate them. He often digresses about random things but its funny and I didnt mind. His tests are super hard though.

Russell is just grand. Quirky and funny. His lectures are by an outline. Write down the outline and follow along. You get a study guide for his exams... study!

I enjoyed Dr. Russell's class. His lectures may ramble, but the main points are there. He grades kind of hard. He requires in-depth essays on exams with examples. Funny and knowledgeable. A very good professor who demands a lot from his students.

Dr. Russel or Colonel Russel to the select few who can call him that. His Civil War & Reconstruction class is very informative and difficult. We had three books that you had to at lease read one and answer for a essay question for at lease one of the test. Dr. Russel is not easy so if you are looking for an easy A do not look here. He is a good pro

His lectures are all over the place and have no clarity. Notes are by outline which he doesn't follow well. Unless you are a history major and actually know all of U.S. History you may want to stay away! far, far, away. SOOOOOO Boring.

Three Points one must accept if they are to delve into a Russell class: 1) To get an A you must attend all lectures. 2) You must take extensive notes. This wont be hard; his lectures are in depth, engaging, and full of wit. 3) Did I mention that you can't miss lectures? He's a tough but fair grader. On tests avoid IDs if you can, do two essays.

This teacher is not funny at all. He tell the most corniest jokes I've ever heard. His test are ridiculous. He expects you to learn a lot of material for his tests. That include 50+ id's plus ten essay questions. You will never know which ids or which 4 essays ?s will be on the tests. GOOD LUCK if you sign up for this class.

I have to laugh at those that complain that Russell has essays on his tests (that you have to write more than a few sentences for, oh my!),and delivers in depth lectures that encourage attendance (wow) to make an A. He's an awesome professor and if you make a C in his class, you earned it.

He is a hard grader. To make an A, you can't miss class. The lectures are everything. If you are a slacker, miss lot of class, or take poor notes, don't take his class. His lectures are great and he tells funny stories. He requires a lot of details on the essay tests. Overall, he is a great professor.
