This professor expects so much participation and work but has no clear guidelines. He gives two papers throughout the semester and grades them very harshly. This is the only professor at Purchase that has given me difficulty. I highly suggest you choose another professor for literature classes.

This dude is unbelievable. Not only did he let me make up 5 weeks of class that I missed but he's one of the nicest, most intelligent, open minded teachers I've ever had the pleasure of having, the amount of breadth that his knowledge covers is insane.

So far, he's incredible. He's forthcoming, intelligent, and you can tell that he has a genuine passion for teaching and making his students understand and stay interested. I'm never bored, honestly. Also, his love of birds is pretty neat.

I did an independent study with Lee and it was one of the highlights of my academic career. He is so knowledgeable about a seemingly impossible amount of things (birds, Homer, turn of the century Ireland, you name it) but he never made me feel dumb for not knowing something. He was engaging and fun to work with and is so genuinely kind.

Lee has a kindness about him that other teachers rarely possess. Whether it's in class or on one of the bird walks he hosts from time to time on campus, he will invest himself completely in a conversation with you. He has plenty of office hours for you to attend -h e is very passionate about Lit., so you may find yourself in another lecture. 10/10

Lee is the man. He is funny and really interesting and has new and interesting insight on the texts you read in class. He does spend a lot of time comparing things to birds but he is a fantastic teacher and a genuinely good human being. Take his class. He's the best.

Lee is the absolute best. He always looked out for me and would stop what he was doing just to help students out if they asked. I needed help on my senior project last year and Aviva, Narayan, and other professors refused to help me or give me feedback. Lee (out of pure kindness) stepped in and helped me. The man is more than an ordinary professor.

I took Bible with Lee last semester, and it was the best class I've ever taken in my life. He is a beam of light. He truly cares & is extensively knowlegable about what he teaches. All I want is to sit down with him and ask him to tell me everything he knows. You have to put the work in, but it's worth it. I can't wait to take more classes with him

Cannot even put into words how much this man inspires me (and most of us lit majors, truly). Teaches you the importance of lit for leading a good life, that poetry matters deeply! My god, what a fantastic teacher...engaging, intellectually stimulating,and above all kind. His lectures are incredibly moving, even life-affirming.

I'm probably the only student at Purchase not crazy about him. That may be because I'm much more into fiction than poetry. Still, he was the most stingy grader I'd ever seen and I didn't like a lot of the stuff we read. I liked him a little, but most of the time, he drove me nuts.

Lee is the reason I am a lit major today. His passion for the subject is contagious, and I have been moved to tears by his lectures several times. Absolutely brilliant man, kind, and friendly.
