I took him bc all the reviews were good, but this shows we all have a different definition of good teachers. His syllabus was confusing. Monotone voice. When I looked around the class everyone seemed to be interested in his lectures except for about 5 of us. Super nice, but not my form of learning. 2 take home tests. Final in class. 10 pg paper.

I took this class back in 2013. While he may speak in a monotone voice, a lot of the slides and lectures have surprising depth in learning about Cultural Anthropology. There was one paper that is 8+ pages to do like in his other classes, but you have several choices to pick from. I think i learned a good deal, and it was an easy B.

Very interesting lectures and such a great guy! Really cares about his students and made us laugh a lot. Syllabus isn't very clear but you get used to his teaching style and learn to like it. I don't think anyone can have anything bad to say about this man.

Caldararo has done a lot in his life, so he brings a lot of hands-on knowledge to his lectures. He's very personable one-on-one. His lectures are fantastic and mind-broadening. His stories about his experiences made me wish class was longer. He broadens your perspective on racism and discrimination and encourages students to make positive change.

This professor is pretty good, however, I think this class could be taught in a more up to date way. There are many new materials on cultures these days, but he still shows black and white videos. This class was ok, I just think the tests and materials could be more inspiring.

Awesome class! I love anthropology and Caldararo is very smart and knowledgeable. This is one of my favorite classes. The first few classes are a bit boring but they start to get very interesting. You learn a lot about different cultures and history. I tried to do all the reading. I did extra credit whenever I could as well. Take this class!

This was a fairly easy class, which does not say that you can avoid attending classes and only do some of the work. Caldararo is an extremely knowledgeable person who has done a great variety of things in his life, and has a lot to offer for anyone willing to learn. Take notes on the lectures, watch the films, ask questions, read the books. Easy A.

You need to be very self motivated to do all the dry reading. He is not going to tell you what to read, until a couple of days before the test. He is very available for help. His lecture slides are extremely wordy, and it becomes difficult to take notes on what he's saying about. The tests are horribly labor intensive. He knows his stuff. Good

He's a great professor and extremely knowledgable. It was just distracting when people around you aren't that interested. He's a fair grader and helpful. He's soft spoken at times, which can affect my attention span. Overall, super great teacher.

1 Quiz (110 pts, T/F, MC) 1 Midterm (110 pts T/F + Short Essay, 1 Paper (110 Pts). Make sure you do the readings and understand the main points of movies. Most of them are pretty interesting. His lecture can be dull sometimes, but he always knows what he's talking about.

quiz (~60MC) midterm(~70MC) final (100MC) 10 page paper sz 14 ft on a BORING book which i suggest taking detailed notes along the way to help with the paper. lectures are boring and dry. videos are kinda interesting. go to class b/c thats where you may get a few answers for the quiz/exams. lots of extra credit. READ THE BOOKS!

Informative class. He definitely knows his stuff. Show up to every class, do all the readings (they're actually quite interesting), and pay attention during lectures, b/c sometimes tests on details. Tests are MC/short essay. Fair grader and, while sometimes a bit dry, can be quite amusing. Overall, the class was fun but a lot of work.

Great teacher! I thought the class was super interesting and he has done a ton of field work, so he really knows what he is talking about. Study the vocab in the book for tests and come to class so you dont miss videos

Lectures are mostly useless. I'd ask when exams were & just show up the class meeting prior - he will tell you what sections/chapters will be on the exam in that meeting. His syllabus isn't very detailed so you might miss a video if you skip class & then miss maybe 3-4 exam questions. Do well on the 8 page paper!! I got a B+ in the class.

Makes class interesting. Worse teachers you could take in anthro department. Will boost your final grade a little. Term paper clear and straight forward. Laid back teacher, attendence not graded. That being said it is not that easy a class. changed date of first quiz.Midterm and final text book based but also has some lecture and video questions.

If you really want to learn something in life, to take a class that really has value, not just your typical information regurgitation course, and something that just flat out makes you a more intelligent human being, take a course with caldararo. He is the most informative professir Ive had at SFSU to date. Just to ALL the reading and be at lecture

I took this class last spring and his lectures WERE boring and it was difficult to take notes. Like someone said, hardly anyone had opportunities to write notes and you're better off going by the book. His exams are done by scantron and has a couple essay questions. The films are critical to see for exams. This class was a drag for the most part

The class was pretty easy as long as you paid attention, took good notes and read the book. He tells you exactly what to write in the essays and the books are interesting. Tests asks some hard questions, but they are multiple choice, some of which are at the end of each chapter. Just do the extra credit, listen and get an A. Good teacher.
