Overall pretty good guy. You really need a coffee before this class. Lectures on lectures on lectures and expects you to write down EVERYTHING he says...word for word. Expects you to know the entire constitution and all the amendments by heart...you really need to pay attention and study for this class. Oh and there is a quiz every week!

Good story teller. He talks for the whole class and there are tons of notes. Weekly quizes which are easy enough if you read/study. His tests are essay format and are also fairly easy if you're not BS-ing your way through them. Weird sense of humor but is a generally great guy. Would recommend if passionate about history.

Not a fan of this class. He is a liberal socialist who wants to make everyone think they way he does (he even said this to the class.) Don't try to have an opposing view because he will either tell your you're wrong or ignore you and continue on. When I go to class I want to learn about the actual history not about his socialist opinions.

I love Professor Stein. Really funny guy, interesting lectures...sometimes his chronology is confusing. Weekly quizzes are EASY, essay tests aren't bad either. Only reason I can see for people to hate him is if their parents are forcing them to go to college or something... but if you care about learning, he's great.

Stein is one of the least boring professors I've ever had; he tells history as a story (the best way). Stay on top of your assignments and all will be well. His tests are nowhere near as hard as people say. It is very much worth it to talk to him out of class on topics. I don't know where all the dislike is from--probably lazy dumb freshmen. Great!

i absolutely adore josh stein and the way he teaches. rather than lecture aimlessly, he talks history in great little stories. he's eager about history and very personable. his sense of humor is a little goofy, but you can't help but laugh. i took a class with him my first semester and was way excited to take another the very next semester

I thought that his class was interesting and he told great stories. He is very enthusiastic about teaching, but I hated his class. He gave too much information to be able to study for the weekly quizzes. I wouldn't take another one of his classes.

Taking Stein's class was one of the truely positive things I got to experience in college. He is very smart, lectures History like it is a narative, and although often late, his office is usualy open. I really can't figure out why people are ****ting all over him, only thing I can figure is that they weren't smart enough to defend their arguments.

Stein is an exhalent teacher. Goes into depth with his lectures however, Stein may be quick/fast while lecturing; don’t be afraid to tell him slow down (he seems overwhelming at first). Stein is willing to meet/help with students; willing to work around his schedule for meetings. Over all, Stein is A++ teacher.

Reading the many negative comments I've seen on here, I am really angered. In my opinion, Joshua Stein is an excellent professor. He presents material in a story-telling type manner, which makes it easy to comprehend if you take good notes. I definitely want to take more of his classes in the future.

Brilliant man. Go to class, read the Cantor book, and make a study group = A. Also, don't mention your religion unless you are Jewish.

Comment:
A truly awful experience sitting through one of Stein's lecture oriented classes. For starters, I might be able to stay awake if he ever called on students to answer questions, rather than talking to us like he is the High Almighty. Go to class blazed and it'll be fine
