Prof Kay made some errors but was alright if you put the time in outside the class. Reading the book is a necessity and your best tool for acing exams. People act like he is the worst teacher ever but I consistently scored far above the average with him. I studied every section out of the book before the final and got a 96%. USING THE BOOK IS KEY!

DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES. I was in his math 23 class and students correct his teaching in class and each problem he did confused himself. He even passed out the wrong test to us and wrote all the questions on the board in a lecture room and did not curve the test. Horrible professor.

DO NOT take this guy's class for MATH 023. Absolutely the worst prof one could ever have. Frequent mistakes in lectures and half of the time seemed as though he didn't know what he was talking about. The worst was when he brought the incorrect exam to 4oclocks, did not give extra time, and did not curve grades despite this immense error.

He seems like a nice enough guy, but DON'T TAKE MATH 023 WITH HIM. lectures were unorganized and were defined by frequent mistakes. Very poor job of explaining. Seems likd he never prepared. You will end up teaching yourself the stuff from the book and learning from recitation.

The worst professor I have had yet at Lehigh. His lectures didn't seem to have any direction or organization, and he continually made mistakes in examples or told us the wrong information (i.e plus signs where minus signs should be, etc.) On the bright side, he was very open to questions, but got about 10 questions during each lecture.

The worst teacher I've ever had at Lehigh. Not clear at all and rarely actually teaches what is on the tests/homework. On the bright side, Alex Borselli was the best TA. Would have done better if he taught the class..

He seems like a nice guy, but his lectures are dreadful. It appears as if he doesn't prepare problems beforehand and thus makes lots of mistakes and sometimes flat out say he doesn't know what he is doing. Luckily its pretty easy to teach yourself the material and the tests are doable as long as you study. Overall not the best professor.

The lectures were absolutely useless, it was his first time teaching Calc 3 here, and it was a painful experience. Needs to work on giving lectures, makes a lot of mistakes. It was very, very difficult to learn the material from him. Lecture material never matched up with test material.

Material is VERY difficult, but Kay is ALWAYS available to help--if you do not take advantage of his help, you will probably do horribly in the class. He may seem irritable but he always wants you to understand the material. I went to his office for almost every assignment, so he knew me by name, and I discovered he is a very nice guy!

I would have to agree with everyone who says that this class is hard. The programming assignments take a long time, the tests are very challenging, and so on... In order to somewhat succeed, go to his office hours! He is very helpful in navigating you through the code. And practice the old exams! You will find questions similar to the actual exam.

Prof. Kay will be your lifeline to lengthy C++ programs if you are like me and do not understand everything beforehand. He really tries to help you succeed during his office hours, or try to find someone in the class early on for help. Some of his topics are not widely talked about on the internet so attend the early morning classes.

This class has an insane amount of work attached to it. It will make you want to rip your eyes out because you are staring at your comp screen for so long. However, the professor spends hours and hours of his time helping students out as much as possible...so its hard to complain. Very nice guy

Teaches a very high level, which is problematic for an entry level course. Would be very good in an upper level programing class, but avoid for CSE 17 and other intro level courses.

Horrible professor for CSE-017, though I've heard better things about him from CSE-109 students. He apparently told one of his 109 classes that he doesn't know Java. So why is he teaching a Java class?! Lectures are very unclear and he never seems to know what he's talking about.

Incredibly nice prof and extremely helpful in his office hours. However, tests are difficult, lectures are hard to follow, and he doesn't give you enough time to do programming assignments and takes off a ton of points if your program doesn't compile. Overall, great guy so get to know him!
