The best Literature Professor I've taken in Rutgers Newark! Amazing man with incredibly knowledge. Not sure if he's retiring this semester, but if he hasn't definitely consider his class.

Professor Hoddeson is such an intelligent person. Although this semester was a bit of a bust since people in the class didn't care at all, he is a great guy. He knows so much about government corruption in the field of Finance. He is very old so his hearing is always lacking, which makes me so sad. I hope nothing but good things come his way.

All around great person. He assigns novels and allows students to add their own creativity to the novels for his assigned papers, usually 4 papers overall. Participation is imperative, as he gives point for it. However, overall, he is an amazing man whose passion for literature and issues affecting the world is exhibited through his lecturing.

Assigns Novels and expects to have a discussion each class on the themes and characters. It is a very enjoyable experience, but Professor Hoddeson is hard of hearing so that can be difficult at times. Novels are cheap. Papers can be difficult but are short. Hoddeson is an very approachable and will provide feedback if you want it. Highly Reccomend

He is an amazing professor who has a lot to teach you. I know you all care about grades and convenience, but if you are an English major or you just love books then he's the Professor you need to learn from. He has a lot to offer when it comes to understanding the material and he even relates the material to what's going on now. He is brilliant!

Easiest class I have ever taken. Class really didn't feel like class. You just go around the room and discuss the readings and if you have nothing to say, he doesn't chastize you. Considering that, I actually learned something in this class. Easy A and very low stress. He's cool too!

Hes such an awesome prof. Assigns like 6-7 books but youll only read like 4 of them. Books arent that bad (could be worse) and you do no classwork at all. If you attend class and just sit there and listen to him explain what you read in clarity, you will pass the tests (2), which are easy. Hes an easy A and all u have to do is read, which isnt bad.

Awesome professor. I enjoyed his class so much! Very sensitive personality. If your paper is good enough it will bring him to tears. Mine actually made him cry :( I will definitely take him again. The best professor at Rutgers. Hope others have enjoyed his class as much as I have.

Awesome class! He's such an amazing professor and a fairly easy grader too. For the course, he assigns like 8 books to read but ends up only covering like 3 of them. Also, he tends to get off topic a lot of times to talk about his own personal experiences which are actually pretty interesting. So, overall, a great class plus an easy A. What more could you ask for?

he isn't bad at being a person just a professor. I didn't learn anything in his class. We only read books by dead white guys, i thought that practice ended sometime in the seventies. The major problem with him is that he works two jobs, is too stretched out, as a result acts like a flake- other than that he is a good guy, is interesting, and means

One of the best professors I have had here. He is one of the smartest people I have ever met, and his passion for the literature he teaches is apparent during his lectures. Lectures encouraged interesting class discussion, so they weren't boring at all. He's pretty lose on attendance, and the exams are pretty easy. Take him if you can!

Hoddeson provided many fascinating lectures and stories for the class. Even though he often does break off into tangents in lecture, he remains fascinating and funny (particularly if you're politically left-leaning). He can get emotional, but that's a quirk which I do admire. He's not too bad of a grader, from what I can recall. Take his class.
